Egremont Select Board Chairman McGurn dies

McGurn was first elected to the Select Board in May 2017.

Egremont —  George McGurn, the current Select Board Chair, died last week, the Edge has confirmed.

McGurn was first elected to the Select Board in May 2017.

Prior to his election to the board, McGurn had never held elected office in town.

“We’ve owned here since 1977 and I love this place,” McGurn said in an interview with The Berkshire Edge back in May 2017. “But there are lots of recurring issues that I think really should be brought to some conclusion.”
He won a second term in 2020 and a third term in 2023.

Before he served on the Select Board, McGurn worked in the State Department, and served as the former dean of the Boston University School of Management.

Further details concerning his death were unavailable at press time.

This story will be updated as more details become available.
