Roy Lindstrom, age 94, of Everett Street in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, died at home on September 28, 2015. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on March 1, 1921, the son of Edward and Josefine Lindstrom, at the time recently arrived from Sweden and Norway, respectively.
Roy served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during the Second World War. He graduated from the American School of Art in New York and then studied marine scape painting with Jay Cannaway on Monhegan Island, Maine. The Berkshires became Roy’s home in 1954 when he moved to North Egremont and joined the staff of the newly formed music and audio magazine High Fidelity as the art director. With his love of music, sound reproduction, and art, he enjoyed many years of challenging and creative work there. After the magazine was purchased by ABC and relocated to New York City, Roy started his own graphic design business called Berkshire Headliners.
In addition to his career as a graphic designer, Roy’s passions were music, painting, and literature. He studied violin as a child and continued to play throughout his life. He belonged to a local string quartet and when arthritis prevented him from playing violin, he switched to mandolin. Roy continued to paint until the end of his life, producing many beautiful land and seascapes.
Roy was also an avid reader, and was thrilled the by technology of the Kindle that allowed him to continue to read after his eyesight started to fail and he could no longer read the small print in books.
Roy is survived by his children Peter and Karen Lindstrom, and his wife Nancy Elliot, all of Great Barrington. Also surviving is his sister, Mildred Bratt and her family of Nashville, Tenn. Roy was predeceased by his wife Janice Thew Lindstrom, the mother of his children, and by his wife Marilyn Shea Lindstrom.
In keeping with Roy’s wishes there are no services.
