Berkshire County — Gilbert Franciapena, 31, has been sentenced in connection with a motor-vehicle homicide that took place in 2023.
According to Julia Sabourin, chief of operations for the Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office, Franciapena was traveling eastbound on the Massachusetts Turnpike during the morning of April 20, 2023. Franciapena’s SUV flipped at approximately the 1.8 mile marker in West Stockbridge in a single-motor-vehicle collision.
Four of the occupants in the vehicle were injured and were treated at Berkshire Medical Center, while a passenger in the vehicle, Marco Tulio Rivera Claros, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Sabourin, Franciapena was not impaired at the time of the incident.
Franciapena has been sentenced to two years probation, a loss of license for 15 years, and 100 hours of community service.
