Dorothy Jean Capasse, 90, of Sheffield died Sunday, January 8, 2023 at Kimball Farms in Lenox. Dorothy was born on August 21, 1932 in Sydney Mines, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada, daughter to Charles and Letha (Sutherland) MacDonald.
Dorothy worked as Department Head of Laundry at Great Barrington Healthcare for 37 years. She enjoyed traveling with the Claire Teague Travel Group, playing bingo, puzzles, gardening, and sewing with friends at the Senior Center.
Dorothy’s husband, Martin Joseph Capasse II, predeceased her on October 31, 1988. Dorothy is survived by two sons, Martin J. Capasse III and wife Connie of Alamogordo, N.M., and William F. Capasse of Ashley Falls; two daughters, Dorothy Banach of Sheffield and Patricia Whitbeck and husband Bob of Sheffield; one sister, Mary Leigh Shaw of Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia; six grandchildren, Heather, Martin IV, Michael, Ryan, Robert, and Christopher; six great-grandchildren, Jo-Ann, Tiffany, William, David, Cailyn, and Stratton; and many nieces and nephews in Canada. In addition to her husband, Martin J. Capasse II, Dorothy was predeceased by daughter Carol Bednarik; son-in-law Joe Banach; granddaughter Kelly Bednarik; four brothers, Charles MacDonald and his wife Myrt, Michael MacDonald, Paul MacDonald, and Gerrard MacDonald; and sister Charlotte Crawford. Dorothy’s sister, Stella MacDonald, passed away the day of Dorothy’s service.
In keeping with Dorothy’s wishes, a private graveside service was held. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Dorothy’s memory may be made to the Claire Teague Senior Center in care of the Birches-Roy Funeral Home, 33 South Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230.
