Dorothy was born in Worcester on Jan. 12, 1921, to the late Theron and Laura Hitchcock. She and her six younger siblings grew up in Lee. She married Captain Lars A. Bleivik of Haugesund, Norway, in 1942, moved to Brooklyn, New York, and raised three children: the late Lars Jr. (Jane), David (Ann) and Barbara Jane. Dorothy is survived by her son David; daughter Barbara; grandchildren David, Christina, Breck, Brittany and Benjamin; stepgrandsons Tom and Paul; and great-grandchildren David, Addison and Jolene. She was predeceased by her husband, Lars, in 1987; her son Lars Jr. in 2016; and all of her siblings: Barbara Holden, Theron Hitchcock Jane DeFreest, Ruth Hayden, Carol Savery and Richard Hitchcock.

Dorothy married Lars just days before his going off to war. Her son Lars Jr. was born while her husband was in Normandy. She had the challenge of raising children while her husband was at sea. She was always trying to help someone. When she was at Brown Court Senior Center, she helped organize many events with the other residents. She was an artist who loved to paint flowers, birds and nature scenes of the Berkshires. She loved children and helped care for her siblings. More than anything, she loved being a mom, a grandmother and a great-grandmother.   She was proud of all of them and loved by them.

The burial service will be Saturday, July 22, at 11 a.m. at Fairmount Cemetery in Lee and will be followed by a luncheon at noon at Greenock Country Club in Lee. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given to the Mount Carmel Care Center Employee Fund in c/o the Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238.
