Doris Grace Skorput, 99, of West Stockbridge, Mass., died Friday, October 6, 2017 at home. She was born in Springfield, Mass., on January 2, 1918, daughter of Morrill Ensworth and Laura Deano Scott. She was a 1935 graduate of Classical High School, Springfield, Mass., a 1939 graduate of Westfield State College with a B.S.E. Degree; she received her MED degree in 1964 at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, Fla.

Doris became a resident of West Stockbridge in 1948; she then moved to West Palm Beach in 1960 before moving back to West Stockbridge in 1998. Doris married Peter Anthony Skorput Jr. in 1941 in Great Barrington, Mass.

From 1940-1950 Doris taught in Connecticut, New York and Florida: from 1950-1960 she taught kindergarten at Plain School, West Palm Beach, Fla; 1960-1968 she taught kindergarten and first grade in West Palm Beach; in 1968-1988 Doris was an Early Childhood Specialist,and kindergarten consultant for the Palm Beach County School Board; 1989-1994 she was a Federal Program Consultant for the Palm Beach County School Board, and from 1975-1994 Doris was an Adjunct Instructor of Early Childhood at the Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, Fla.

She was a former member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Alpha Omega Chapter, Association for Childhood Education, and the National Association for Young Children. She was a present member of the West Stockbridge Congregational Church where she served as Church Clerk and Deacon; she was a Recording Secretary for The Tuesday Club of Stockbridge. Doris was a contributing member of the West Stockbridge Council on Aging. She volunteered for the Blind and Dyslexic Berkshire Unit.

Funeral services for Doris Grace Skorput who died October 6, will be held on Wednesday October 11, at 1 p.m. at the West Stockbridge Congregational Church with the Rev. Belle Fox-Martin officiating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, West Stockbridge. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in Doris’ memory may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society or to the West Stockbridge Congregational Church, both in care of the Birches-Roy Funeral Home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA, 01230.
