Dolores Kaufmann, 99, of Stockbridge

In lieu of flowers, it is Dolores' wish that donations be made to The Eurythmy Association Of North America.

Dolores Kaufmann was born in Greenwich, Conn., on January 19, 1926. She died gracefully at 1 a.m. at the Mount Carmel Home in Lenox on January 31, 2025. She was the daughter of Rocco and Angelina Intriere. She was the fourth of six children.

Dolores enjoyed sports, particularly swimming, in which she excelled. In early school in Greenwich, she showed a propensity to art and went on to attend the Art Students League of New York City for four years.

On May 6, 1950, Dolores married Tilo Kaufmann, and together they raised three children, Tilo being a woodworker and Dolores teaching art at the Otis Public School. She studied the dance form eurythmy with Ilse Kimball for four years, commuting to NYC. Dolores went on to teach eurythmy at Camphill Village in Copake, N.Y., for 26 years.

Dolores Kaufmann was a founding member of Berkshire Waldorf School, formerly the Rudolf Steiner School, and was the first eurythmy teacher employed there. She also was a founding member of the New England Eurythmy Group, and she toured with them for many years. After retiring from active performance, she went on to teach eurythmy from kindergarten through grade eight at the Lexington Waldorf School, where she commuted every Monday morning at 4:30 a.m. in time to teach her first class., then driving back to her home in Interlaken every Friday after her last class. She was devoted both to her students and to her life in the Berkshires.

After teaching for 20 years in Lexington, Dolores retired at the age of 84. She continued to pursue her interest in music and theater at Tanglewood, the Berkshire Arts Festival, art galleries, and museums. She loved nature, appreciated beauty in all forms, and loved people. Dolores loved her family, her students, and her neighbors.

Dolores Kaufmann was predeceased by her husband Tilo and leaves behind her children: Debbie McAlister of Canada; Mark Kaufmann of Sint Maarten, Netherland Antilles; and Leslie McKenna of Alford. She also leaves six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home on Monday, March 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Great Barrington. Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
