Dolores E. Coons, 90, died Tuesday morning at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center surrounded by her loving family.

Born Dec. 6, 1927, in Pittsfield, the daughter of Manuel and Florence Mendonca, she was a 1946 graduate of Pittsfield High School. After graduation, Mrs. Coons married the love of her life and dedicated her time to raising her four children. She was a communicant of the United Methodist Church of Lenox for much of her life. She enjoyed playing the organ, oil painting, singing with the Sweet Adelines, being a member of the Red Hat Society, performing in the Minstral Show, spending time at the ocean and, most of al,l being with her family. She had a generous heart and a spunky, fun-loving attitude. No matter where she went, she was the life of the party. She danced her whole 90 years and always made the best of every moment.

Mrs. Coons is survived by four children: Randall Coons and wife Kathleen of Lee, Wendy Armstrong and husband Michael of Lee, Beverly Pittman and former husband Fred of Pittsfield, and Shirley Piche and former husband Michael of Lenox. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Kimberly Jones (Robert), Kacie Armstrong (Thomas Lampiasi), Jeffrey Coons, Kelly Bianco (James), Jamie Pittman, Fred Pittman Jr., Jennifer Pittman, Ashley Meilunas (Jameson), and Kelly Piche. She also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, Russell T. Coons, whom she married Aug. 10, 1946, in Pittsfield, died in 2005. Mrs. Coons was also predeceased by her grandson Shane R. Kroboth and her sister Dorothy Williams.

Dolores’ family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center for providing her with such loving care.

The funeral of Mrs. Dolores E. Coons of Lenox will be Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. at Roche Funeral Home. A private burial will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dolores’ name to the Lenox Fire Department or the United Methodist Church of Lenox in care of Roche Funeral Home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
