Dismayed over ‘stalled’ deliberations on STR bylaw

The unresolved issue of a few sitting board members should not prevent a draft proposal from being presented to a wider public audience.

To the editor:

My discomfort with stalled conversation concerning an STR [Short Term Rental] bylaw grows daily.

Allegations of conflict of interest leading to a focus on recusal, remains front and center and the subject of Short Term Rentals has not been discussed for a number of weeks.

Derailing the conversation on a debatable technicality is in effect fundamentally undemocratic. If the delay continues beyond next Wednesday, a draft by-law will not go on the warrant and town residents will be denied the opportunity to exercise their right to weigh in on the subject.

The unresolved issue of a few sitting board members should not prevent a draft proposal from being presented to a wider public audience.

Local governance is what we strive for in this town – let’s stick to the issue at hand and stop the chest pounding stance of holier-than-tho and move forward with this draft, get it on the warrant and in front of the people.
