Daniel H. Murphy, 90, of Housatonic died Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. Daniel was born in Great Barrington on June 25, 1932, the son of John and Mildred (Haywood) Murphy. He attended the local elementary schools and was a 1950 graduate of the former Searles High School.

Daniel worked for many years in the Sales and Marketing Department for the former Rising Paper Company and then worked as the Store Manager of Bunnell Auto Parts in Lee, retiring in 2007. Daniel was a communicant of Corpus Christi Church, Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish. He was a Lector and a member of the Parish Council, a committed volunteer for the Food and Clothing Bank, and was involved with the Annual Parish Bazaar.
Daniel was an avid fisherman, enjoyed gardening, antique cars, reading, and country music, as well as collecting old coins. He was a loyal and enthusiastic New York Yankees fan. He especially enjoyed sharing time with family and friends.
Daniel is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jean (Gerard) Murphy of Housatonic, whom he married on November 22, 1956 at Corpus Christi Church in Housatonic. He is also survived by one son, John Murphy of Stanley, N.C.; four daughters, Rosemary O’Brien and husband Timothy of Stockbridge, Patricia Hamilton and husband Bruce of Mansfield, Mass., Jean Isabelle and husband Michael of Rochester, Mass., and Kathleen Murphy and partner Hank of Pittsfield; and six grandchildren. Daniel was predeceased by his brother, George Murphy.
A Funeral Mass with a Liturgy of Christian Burial for Daniel H. Murphy will be held on Saturday, March 11 at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church, Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish in Housatonic with Reverend William P. Murphy Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Saint Bridget’s Cemetery in Housatonic. Family will receive friends on Saturday, March 11 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Daniel’s memory may be made to the Corpus Christi Church, Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish Maintenance Fund or a charity of choice, in care of the funeral home.
