Dance for Memorial Day: ‘Close Order Drill Disco’

Of his dance choreographed for Memorial Day (click on the video in this item) , Leif Steinert of Stockbridge writes: "I think what I have achieved here is truly ridiculous."

Stockbridge – Leif Steinert writes: “Here’s a dance I have been working on in Stockbridge since the road thawed out (see video below). I filmed it this morning. For Memorial Day, it’s to remember my ten years in the U.S. Navy as a Viet Nam Era veteran — 1962-1972.

“Called ‘Close Order Drill Disco,’ the dance is set to the U.S.M.C. band playing ‘Washington Post March’ by Sousa. In a metaphysical sense it resolves my inner ‘sailor/dancer’ conflict and also strives for a humorous artistic statement. This is the first full dance I choreographed and performed myself. I think what I have achieved here is truly ridiculous.”
