Cynthia Gerold ‘Cindy’ Mullner, 65, formerly of Great Barrington

Cindy’s family would like to express deep gratitude to Dr. Ajaz M. Khan, chair of the Department of Oncology at City of Hope, and his entire team in Chicago and Atlanta.

Cindy Gerold Mullner, formerly of Great Barrington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 5, at home in Memphis, Tenn., surrounded by her family and friends.

Born in Bronxville, N.Y. on September 3, 1958, Cindy was the daughter of (the late) Lou and Janie Gerold, who moved to Great Barrington in 1968. Cindy attended the former Bryant Elementary and Searles Middle Schools and graduated from Monument Mountain Regional High School in 1976.

Cindy remained involved with the Berkshire County community and especially the Monument Mountain alumni. She was a key organizer of the All Class Reunion and fundraiser in 2012. The event included a lantern launch at sunset to remember departed classmates, a food drive supporting People’s Pantry, and a silent auction benefiting the high school scholarship fund. Many Monument Mountain alumni, no matter the graduating year, will remember Cindy!

Cindy lived most of her adult life in the suburbs of Chicago and had a successful career in the logistics and international freight forwarding industry. Her last position was as a sales executive with West Forwarding Services, based in Bensenville, Ill.

In her hometown in suburban Chicago, Cindy enjoyed being involved in her son Matthew’s school PTO. She enjoyed cooking and hosted a chili cook off on several occasions.

Cindy enjoyed traveling and, most recently, spending winters in Florida. She became a Harley motorcycle enthusiast; she especially loved the motorcycle community and traveling with her partner, Steve Harris of Carthage, Ill. For Cindy, there was almost no better place than being on the beach with a good summer read. Cindy never met a stranger; she called you friend by the end of your conversation. She will always be remembered for her quick wit and her bright smile.

Cindy is survived by her son Matthew, whom she shared with former husband David Mullner of Rockford, Ill. She is survived by her mother, Janie Gerold of Devon, Penn., and leaves behind her sisters, the Reverend Donna Gerold of Memphis, Tenn. and Melissa Gerold Clark (David) of Newtown Square, Penn., and seven nieces and nephews. In addition, she is a GREAT aunt to seven grand-nieces and -nephews!

Cindy’s family would like to express deep gratitude to Dr. Ajaz M. Khan, chair of the Department of Oncology at City of Hope, and his entire team in Chicago and Atlanta. The family would also like to acknowledge the dedication and compassion of the staff at Methodist Healthcare Hospice, especially nurse Rebecca Doe.

Donations may be made to the City of Hope Chicago.
