Great Barrington — A call about a man lying unresponsive at the side of the road on Route 23 this morning (December 8) at 12:23 a.m. led to a series of events in which the man became combative as he resisted arrest, according to Police Chief William Walsh.
Officers found Brad W. Lehmann, 29, on the Green River Bridge. Officers Victor Zucco and Richard Keefner recognized Lehmann, and knew he had an outstanding arrest warrant for a Stockbridge trespassing case, according to Walsh. Lehmann, of Pittsfield, who appeared intoxicated, violently resisted arrest, according to police. After he was forced into the rear of the cruiser, he continued yelling obscenities and kicked the cruiser door. Upon arrival at the station, police say officers had to physically remove Lehmann from the cruiser. He continued to resist arrest, police say, kicking Zucco, Keefner and officer Chad Shimmon. He was placed in a cell, where police say he wrapped his shirt around his neck, threw wet toilet paper, rubbed blood from a wrist injury on the walls and urinated on the cell door.
Bail was set at $500 and Lehmann was taken to Southern Berkshire District Court, and charged with resisting arrest, three counts of assault and battery on a police officer, larceny over $250, malicious destruction of property, and disorderly conduct.
Officers discovered an electronic thermometer that police say Lehmann had stolen from Fairview Hospital the previous night.
Egremont Police assisted in the arrest.
Lehmann remains in custody.
