GREAT BARRINGTON — A pedestrian was injured and a driver charged as a result of an accident in a downtown crosswalk this afternoon.
In a written statement, Great Barrington Police Chief Paul Storti said at 2:20 p.m., a vehicle traveling southbound on Main Street stuck a pedestrian crossing in the crosswalk from the intersection at Railroad Street.
The pedestrian, whom Storti did not identify, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Fairview Hospital by the Southern Berkshire Ambulance Squad.
“It appears from the investigation that the pedestrian was well established in the crosswalk,” Storti said, adding that the operator of the vehicle, Melanie Greenberg, was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
The Great Barrington Fire Department and Otis Ambulance also assisted on the scene. Great Barrington Police Officers Sam Stolzar and Brandon Messina are investigating the incident.
