Community support needed for Du Bois eighth grade trip

Because the cost of transportation, lodging, and meals is significant, the trip depends on community support.

To the editor:

The eighth grade class at W.E.B. Du Bois Regional Middle School is working to make an end-of-year civics trip possible for all students, and we are asking our community for help.

As part of the curriculum, students study the U.S. Constitution, the structure of government, and the responsibilities of citizenship. A trip to Philadelphia or Boston would bring those lessons to life through visits to places like Independence Hall or the Freedom Trail. For many students, this experience is also a rare chance to travel, build connections with classmates, and close out their middle school years together.

Because the cost of transportation, lodging, and meals is significant, the trip depends on community support. An online auction is currently underway, and donations can be made here as well. Our goal is to raise $42,000 to fully fund the Philadelphia trip. If that goal is not met, funds will support a Boston trip so the experience can still happen.

We invite community members to get involved by donating through the online auction or sharing the link with others. Every contribution helps ensure that all students can take part, regardless of financial circumstances.

Supporting this effort is an investment in our students and in the civic education we value as a community.
