Christopher Thomas Carroll Sr., a longtime resident of Scituate, Massachusetts, died on Sept. 6, in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, following a long illness. He was 77.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Dec. 5, 1938, to Joseph and Rose Carroll, Christopher moved with his family to Scituate in 1982, where he lived until 2015. For many years he ran his own sales and marketing company, American Marketing Company, from an office above Maria’s Submarine Sandwich Shop at Scituate Harbor. Later in life he became an avid painter, actor, and advocate of physical fitness. He was a spinning instructor at Baystate Athletic Club on the Driftway. After the births of his four children, his proudest moment came in 2013 when he completed the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk for the 25th year in a row.
Health problems led him to move to the Berkshires in 2015 to be closer to his youngest son.
He is survived by Christopher, Jr. and his wife, Jenn, of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts; James and his wife, Lisa, of Ridgefield, Connecticut; Jennifer Carlin and her husband Christopher, of Piles Grove, New Jersy; and Felix Carroll and his wife, Cara, of Monterey, Massachusetts. He is also survived by two former wives: Ann Carroll of Scituate and Mary Cadigan of Duxbury, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Melanie Roake of Scituate, Gregory and Jeffrey of East Bridgewater, Griffin and Sydney of Ridgefield, Shannon of Piles Grove, and Henry of Monterey.
The family will hold a private memorial service in Scituate on Saturday, Sept. 24. Donations in his name can be made to The Jimmy Fund through FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. To send remembrances to his family, go to www.finnertyandstevens.com.
