Character, truth, and decency matter in a president

Clearly, a man who lies to people suffering the loss of their homes, possessions, and in some cases livelihood hasn’t a shred of decency and is unfit to sit in the Oval Office.

To the editor:

Politics reveals character; it doesn’t build it. That is where Kamala Harris stands apart from her opponent in this election.

Kamala believes leaders should be truthful to people and that they should lift people up, not beat them down.

In stark contrast, Trump has decided to finish the election with a firehose of disinformation, lies, and deliberate cruelty relating to the massive relief effort in the wake of not one but two historic hurricanes. He tells those reeling from storm damage that their government is diverting aid to illegal immigrants and that the $750 initial payment from FEMA is all they will get. None of that is true, of course.

FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell has said Trump’s disinformation is “demoralizing to all of the first responders who have been out there in their communities helping people.” Incredibly, FEMA has had to expend time and resources on a Hurricane Rumor Response operation.

Clearly, a man who lies to people suffering the loss of their homes, possessions, and in some cases livelihood hasn’t a shred of decency and is unfit to sit in the Oval Office.

On November 5, please vote for character, truth, and decency. Vote for Kamala Harris.

Unless you are MAGA, raise your hand if you care about the Epstein file

Before the election, after Kash Patel, Pam Bondi, and other right-wing conspiracy theorists claimed that the FBI had the Epstein file but refused to release it because Bill Clinton and other Democrats were likely included, the MAGA drums were beating for raw meat.

Proposed high-density housing project for 546 Main Street

That Great Barrington has a housing shortage is indisputable—both affordable and market-rate housing. I think that every person on Mahaiwe Street is in agreement. I am concerned about the wholesale selling of our community to developers without input from us.

The MAGA debt bomb

We should be taking action to bring the national debt down, not giving away our treasure—and our future—to billionaires and large corporations.
