“This is a unified district, and I'm going to be working hard for you," Davis said in a speech to attendees of her election watch part at Barrington Brewery. "Yes, we have so much to be thankful for, and I'm going to be your voice, and I'm going to be here to serve you, and I'm going to be here to represent you.”
Readers of The Berkshire Edge write in on the race between independent candidate Marybeth Mitts and Democratic candidate Leigh Davis for state representative in the 3rd Berkshire District.
“Sen. Mark and Reps. Farley-Bouvier and Barrett have been tireless advocates for the Berkshires, and I look forward to joining them and building on their legacy,” said Davis.
At the Oct. 8 debate, Lenox Select Board member and independent candidate Marybeth Mitts faced Great Barrington Selectboard Vice Chair and Democratic candidate Leigh Davis.
At the candidates forum on Wednesday, Sept. 25, Davis said that she “was just on the phone with the governor a couple of days ago” and that the campaign had not yet made a formal announcement about the endorsement.
Great Barrington Selectboard Vice Chair and Democratic nominee Leigh Davis and Lenox Select Board member Marybeth Mitts are contending for Pignatelli's seat in the State House of Representatives in November’s general election.
"For years, Leigh has been a strong advocate for her community, and as state representative, she will be a leader in the fight for workers’ rights, environmental sustainability, and housing justice," said Sen. Warren.
"Reproductive freedom is on the ballot in every race across New England this Election Day," said Reproductive Equity Now President Rebecca Hart Holder. "That is why it is so important that we elect reproductive equity champions up and down the ballot this November and why we’re proud to support Leigh Davis."
"This is only the first step in two steps, with two months to go [to the general election]," Davis said to the cheers of her supporters during her victory speech at the Barrington Brewery. "You guys are going to be with me. I'm going to be with you, and we're doing it together."
“The divide between climate champions and climate delayers in our legislature is stark. We need representatives who do not simply accept the broken status quo,” said 350 Mass Action Political Coordinator Dan Zackin.
Candidates took turns discussing their views on financing for clean energy, infrastructure improvements, greening schools, clean energy siting, whether or not the state should expand natural-gas pipelines, and if the state should subsidize biomass as an alternative fuel.
"Unfortunately, my opponent, Patrick White, has recently mocked both me and the organizations that have endorsed my campaign," Davis wrote in a post on Maggie's List.
“On Beacon Hill, [Davis will] be a bold, progressive voice on the issues that matter to the residents of western Massachusetts, and I’m proud to endorse her to represent the 3rd Berkshire District," said Congresswoman Pressley.
“Clean Water Action is a national environmental leader focused on actionable solutions, and their endorsement is particularly meaningful to me," said Davis. "The contamination of our water supply, if left unchecked, will have severe and irreversible effects on the health of Berkshire County residents."
Ms. Davis is a champion for housing; she raises the issue with great frequency and has made housing part of her professional life. Unfortunately, when it comes time to make difficult decisions concerning the actual creation of affordable housing, her record is not so good.
“We are confident that Leigh Davis will bring her lived experience and commitment to the community to the State House, making her an effective and equity-minded leader for all people in the 3rd Berkshire District,” said Kim Hokanson, NASW-MA PACE chair.
