Carol Mallory, 69, of Great Barrington

She began her nursing career in the newly formed geriatric unit at the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Haven, Connecticut, where she worked for nearly 26 years, retiring in 1999.

Carol L. (Robinson) Mallory of Great Barrington passed peacefully from this life after a long battle with cancer Feb. 14 at home with her family at her side.

Carol Mallory

She was born Jan. 23, 1949, in Troy, New York, the daughter of Marian E. (Geerholt) Robinson and the late Howard O. Robinson. She spent her early life in that area before moving to the Berkshires and Great Barrington where she graduated from the former Searles High School in 1967. Carol received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Northeastern University and obtained her RN license in Connecticut after her graduation. She began her nursing career in the newly formed geriatric unit at the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Haven, Connecticut, where she worked for nearly 26 years, retiring in 1999. She married her husband, Tom, in September 1972 and brought three beautiful daughters into the world.

The simple things in life made her the happiest – the sun on her face, the hugs from her grandchildren and watching the hummingbirds at the bird feeder. Watching the flowers that she planted grow and bloom would bring a smile to her face. Carol was a fan of and listened to jazz whenever the opportunity presented itself. She maintained a strong faith and a heart full of gratitude that carried her through both the many trials in her life as well as the daily routine. Carol was an active member of the First Congregational Church. She did not wish to have anyone make a fuss over her but would always be one of the first to offer her help and assistance to anyone who might need it.

She is survived by her husband Thomas; her daughter Linda Waterman of Gorham, Maine; her daughter Karen Mallory of Westbrook, Maine; her daughter Catherine Mallory of Great Barrington; and four grandchildren: Caleb Waterman and triplets Elijah, Gabriel and Isaiah Waterman, all of Gorham. She also leaves her mother, Marian Robinson, of Great Barrington; sister Donna Sermini and husband Robert, also of Great Barrington; and sister Barbara Lawrence and husband Rick of Portland, Maine. She was predeceased by her father and by her sister Janet Teeple of Conway, South Carolina.

A service for Carol Robinson Mallory will be held Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington conducted by Rev. Dr. Randall K. Wilburn. Burial will follow at St. Bridget’s Cemetery in Housatonic. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Donations in memory of Carol may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires through FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
