Butternut Fire update November 26 morning update: Fire 40 percent contained

The department continues to ask residents to stay away from the areas involved in the fire.

Great Barrington and Sheffield —The Butternut Fire is 40 percent contained, according to the Great Barrington Fire Department.

The department made the announcement on social media during the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 26.

At last report the wildfire, which started during the night of Monday, Nov. 18, involved 1,388 acres of land in both Great Barrington and Sheffield.

The department expects that the containment percentage number will grow rapidly as more data is obtained.

The department expects to obtain more data, GPS locations of the burned area, and an accurate number of how much acreage has been involved in the fire, over the course of the day.

The department continues to ask residents to stay away from the areas involved in the fire.
