Butternut Fire November 27 morning update: Fire now 60 percent contained, acreage involved now estimated at 1,670 acres

The Great Barrington Fire Department announced that “The fire did not grow; the data became more accurate”.

Great Barrington and Sheffield — On Wednesday, Nov. 27, the Great Barrington Fire Department announced that the Butternut Fire, which started on Monday, Nov. 18, is now 60 percent contained.

The department expects that the containment number will continue to grow as more data is obtained from the fire.

Over the past few days, the department has collected data and measurements from the fire, including GPS locations of the burned areas.

According to the department, the total acreage involved in the fire is now 1,670 acres.

Previously, the fire was estimated at 1,388 acres.

As part of the announcement, the department wrote “The fire did not grow; the data became more accurate” and that the estimated number of acres involved in the fire is expected to grow as more data is collected.
