New Marlborough Selectman Shalaby joins VIM Berkshires
Great Barrington — Volunteers in Medicine Berkshires has named activist and New Marlborough Selectboard member Michele Shalaby as its new human resources and volunteer manager. Shalaby will replace Susan Minnich, who will retire in December.
Shalaby is a native of Indiana and holds an MBA from Loyola University in Chicago. Her diverse business background includes ownership of a management and technical consulting firm. She has lived in the Berkshires for nine years and has been a member of the New Marlborough Board of Selectmen for five years.
“I enjoy tasks that combine technical and administrative challenges with a social aspect,” said Shalaby, who will recruit and coordinate a large group of volunteers in addition to administering federal medical insurance programs and other human resources responsibilities.
Shalaby has two children in high school in the Southern Berkshire Regional School District and enjoys her role as theatre costumer for school productions. She is also a nature lover who walks, hikes and skis.

Holiday marketplace to showcase renovated building
Stockbridge — Berkshire Botanical Garden will hold its annual holiday marketplace will take place Saturday, Dec. 2, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. the marketplace will include over 20 craft vendors and hand-selected flowering plants as well as a Gallery of Wreaths, a BBG tradition of one-of-a-kind wreaths created by area designers and artists.
The event coincides with the grand opening of BBG’s newly renovated Center House after a yearlong project to restore and expand the 18th-century structure. The community is invited to view the new building, enjoy complimentary refreshments and help usher in the holiday season. Greylock to offer class for first-time homebuyers
Pittsfield — Greylock Federal Credit Union will offer a free class for first-time homebuyers Wednesday, Nov. 29, and Thursday, Nov. 30, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Greylock Insurance Agency, Allendale Shopping Center, 5 Cheshire Rd.
Participants in the course will learn create a budget; learn how to understand credit and financing options; and review the home-buying process with a realtor, home inspector, appraiser and team members from Greylock Insurance Agency.

Salisbury Bank’s ‘We Believe’ program to distribute toys to children
Lakeville, Conn. — Salisbury Bank is continuing its 30-year tradition of distributing toys to children in need via its “We Believe” program. Those who would like to participate in the program may drop off new, unwrapped gifts at any of Salisbury Bank’s 14 locations by Friday, Dec. 15. Gift ideas include but are not limited to sports equipment, books, board games, hand-held electronic games, backpacks, building sets, craft kits, purses, cosmetics and gift cards to local retailers.
