CDCSB receives permits for 910 Main Street project
Great Barrington — The Community Development Corporation of South Berkshire has received all necessary zoning and environmental permits for its new 49-unit, mixed-income rental project 910 Main Street, clearing the way for funding applications to the state to begin construction.
The planning board issued a 40R Smart Growth Overlay District Permit Nov. 8; the selectboard issued a Water Quality District Special Permit Nov. 26; and the conservation commission approved a Notice of Intent Order of Conditions Nov. 28. With these permits in hand, the CDC anticipates being invited into the February 2019 application round for project funding with the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development.
The project includes the new construction of 49 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments: 40 affordable and nine market-rate. Rents are expected to be less than half that of other recent and proposed apartment developments. All units will be net-zero ready energy efficient and will be made from green building materials. Common areas include a community gathering space with kitchen, playground, community garden and laundry facilities. Approximately 6.5 acres of the 8.7-acre site will be permanently conserved open space.
The development team for 910 Main Street includes Way Finders Inc., architect Nick Elton of Elton and Hampton Architects, civil engineering by White Engineering, Berkshire Housing Development Corporation as the management agent, and MBL Housing and Development as development consultant. Project construction will depend on the timing of funding from DHCD and is anticipated for either the spring of 2020 or 2021.

CHP’s Great Barrington practice wins Patient Experience Award
Great Barrington — Community Health Programs’ Great Barrington Health Center has been recognized by Massachusetts Health Quality Partners for excellence in the primary care patient experience, based on patient surveys.
The Patient Experience Awards were introduced this year by MHQP, a nonprofit measurement and reporting organization bringing together providers, health plans and patients to improve the quality of patient care experiences in Massachusetts. MHQP conducts the only statewide survey of primary care patient experience in Massachusetts, with feedback from over 65,000 commercially insured patients across the state.
Awards were given to the practices that ranked highest in each of 11 performance categories as well as an overall performance category determined by the practices with the best-in-class results across multiple categories. CHP’s Great Barrington Health Center received recognition for distinction in Empowering Patient Self Care.

Barrington Stage welcomes Seltzer to board of trustees

Pittsfield — Barrington Stage Company welcomes Richard Seltzer to its board of trustees.
Seltzer graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College in 1965 and then obtained a Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School, where he was a Stone scholar. He spent his entire professional career at the New York City law firm of Kaye Scholer, chairing its real estate litigation group and also practicing in its patent group. In the Berkshires, he has been the president of the Stockbridge Bowl Association for the past nine years, chairman of the board of Hancock Shaker Village for the past two years, and is also on the board of the Mount. He enjoys supporting the Clark Art Institute, Chester Theatre Company, Tanglewood and Jacob’s Pillow. He has been increasingly trying to help organizations such as Doctors Without Borders, the International Rescue Committee, Mercy Corps, Technoserve, CARE, the United Nations Human Rights Council, and food banks in the Berkshires and New York City. Seltzer and his wife, Carol, reside in Manhattan and Stockbridge.

Rotter joins Goodwill as director of retail operations

Pittsfield — Goodwill Industries of the Berkshires Inc. has appointed Stephen Rotter as director of retail operations. In his new position, Rotter will oversee Goodwill’s donated goods and retail operations, working closely with Goodwill’s leadership team to meet the needs of an ever-changing economy.
A native of Portland, Oregon, Rotter holds a bachelor’s degree in business management and is a graduate of Western Oregon University and Western Governors University. Most recently Rotter was the direct store delivery operations specialist for Shaw’s Supermarkets. He held management positions for 14 years with the Albertsons Companies chain of grocery stores in Oregon, Arizona and Massachusetts. Throughout his career, Rotter has led training programs in leadership development, financial management and retail receiving protocol.
He serves as president of the Lanesborough Youth Baseball board of directors and enjoys coaching baseball, traveling, hiking and kayaking. He lives in Lanesborough with his wife, Andrea, and their four children.

Person installed as NAHB executive officers’ council president

Rocky Hill, Conn. — Eric Person, CEO of the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Central Connecticut, was recently installed as the 2018 president of the National Association of Home Builders‘ executive officers council. The installation was held in conjunction with the 2018 International Builders Show in Orlando, Florida.
Person has served on the EOC board of directors and on most of its major committees since 2010; he was elected to the position of president by his peers at the EOC’s annual meeting in Denver, Colorado, in 2017. Person was also named the executive officers council’s executive officer of the year by his peers in 2015, and the executive officer of the year by the NAHB senior officers and senior staff for 2017.
Person is a native of Sheffield, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Berkshire School. He received his undergraduate degree and Master of Business Administration from the University of Connecticut. He resides in Stafford Springs with son Will and daughter Olivia.
