Architectural Digest: Hotel on North a “Favorite New American Hotel”

Pittsfield — Hotel on North was named as one of Architectural Digest’s (AD) “Favorite New American Hotels” in 2015.

In its description of Hotel on North, AD said, “…the city of Pittsfield has long seemed like an ideal hub for exploring the area’s natural beauty and cultural attractions. The only thing missing was a stylish hotel – until now.”

“We’ve always said Hotel on North is a labor of love,” said Laurie Tierney, co-owner of Hotel on North with her husband David Tierney III. “We’re so grateful to receive this recognition and appreciative of how much others love this hotel…especially our guests.”

The architect for Hotel on North was Karen Tierney Hunt of Pittsfield, who also led efforts to preserve and incorporate existing building elements into the design. The vision and interior design for the hotel was a close collaboration between the Main Street Hospitality Group design team of Nancy Fitzpatrick, Sarah Eustis, and Carla Child along with owners David and Laurie Tierney.

Located in a pair of buildings that date from the 1880s that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Hotel on North celebrates the building’s heritage with original and refurbished tin ceilings, exposed brick walls, and wood columns. Its 45 rooms share an eclectic and creative mix of furnishings and décor from the workshops of local artists and artisans.

Community visioning process workshop in Stockbridge

Stockbridge – The Town of Stockbridge and the Stockbridge Chamber of Commerce are conducting a public workshop as part of a community visioning project. The Town has appointed a new Visioning Committee and is calling on community members to participate in two interactive community workshops to be facilitated by professional planning consultants Connie Kruger and Jennifer Goldson of JM Goldson Community Preservation and Planning.

The purpose of the project is to develop a unified vision to imagine the best future for Stockbridge. The workshops will include information about how Stockbridge is changing, small group exercises, and digital group polling. The visioning process builds across the workshops and participants encouraged, though not required, to attend both. The first workshop will focus on the best-imagined future and the second will ground the vision and set goals for the future.

The “Time to Dream” workshop will take place on Thursday, January 28, at 6:30 p.m. in the gymnasium of the Stockbridge town offices at 50 Main St. Light refreshments will be provided, as will childcare with advanced request. Although the meeting is open to all Stockbridge residents and members of the Stockbridge business community and registration is not required, it is requested that those interested in attending sign up online in order to allow the organizers to plan for adequate refreshments, workshop materials, and childcare needs.
