East Chatham, N.Y. — Flying Deer Nature Center will offer its first adult and children’s programs this spring at its new home.

The 164 acres of field and forest at 122 Daley Road will be the setting for daylong nature-education programs for ages 7 to 12, beginning Saturday, March 10, and running one Saturday per month through June. The drop-in Bird Language Club meeting for teens and adults is also being held on the second Saturday each month.

The property, which includes a home and outbuildings, was donated to the center by longtime community members Jeanne and David Laskin, and will be preserved in perpetuity through an agreement with the Columbia County Land Conservancy. Flying Deer is currently implementing infrastructure changes such as trail-building and other improvements to make the land accessible and welcoming for program participants while also ensuring the health and preservation of the woodlands, stream, pond and meadows. A ribbon-cutting and community celebration at the campus is being planned for Saturday, June 16.
