Business Brief: Dr. Schnuffie’s Expands into Big Y and Midwest

Dr. Schnuffie’s, the immune supplement company founded by two former Great Barrington selectmen, is designed to prevent and address flu-season colds, and has expanded into every state in New England.

Dr. Schnuffie’s, the immune supplement company founded in 2017 by two former Great Barrington Selectmen, made a big retail jump this winter and will now be available in all of supermarket Big Y’s 71 locations. “It’s been a great year,” said Dr. Alan Inglis, who founded the company with Andrew Blechman. “Expanding into a big supermarket chain like Big Y is a big step for us, as is taking on several distributors.”

Dr. Schnuffie’s, which is designed to prevent and address flu-season colds, has expanded into every state in New England, as well the Hudson Valley and the Capital Region, and can now also be found in health food stores and co-ops in the Midwest. “We’re in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and even North Dakota,” Dr. Inglis said. “There’s plenty of cold weather there, so it’s rich territory for our Get Well and Stay Well formulas.”

Dr. Schnuffie’s is formulated by Dr. Inglis, who developed the supplements in his Functional Medicine practice in Great Barrington. The company is named for Blechman’s daughter, whom he calls his Schnuffie. “We wanted a fun and memorable name that was also soothing,” Blechman said. As the company continues to expand, it plans to focus on several additional formulations, including ones for digestion, sleep, and hair, skin, and nails.

Dr. Schnuffie’s, which is endorsed by Dr. Mark Pettus, associate professor at UMASS School of Medicine, and Kathie Swift, nutritionist for Kripalu and Canyon Ranch, is available locally at Guido’s, the Co-op, Lenox Pharmacy, and now Big Y. It’s also available on Amazon via the Dr. Schnuffie’s website, which includes a full annotated medical bibliography for each ingredient used: www.getwellformulas.com.
