Bruce E. “Tag” Taggart 80 of South Egremont, died Saturday, December 17, at Fairview Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Great Barrington on September 29, 1936 to Cornelius E. and Helen Hamm Taggart.

An avid horseman Tag worked for many years as a race horse trainer and owner at many tracks in the New England area. He also worked for the state of Massachusetts as an Environmental Police Officer, for the town of Great Barrington as a Special Policeman, and was a long time employee of the Birches-Roy Funeral Home where he worked as a Licensed Funeral Home Assistant. He was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church.
Tag was an avid gardener. He also enjoyed, cooking, hunting, fishing, trapping, traveling to Chincoteague, Va., and telling a good story. Most of all Tag adored his family and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a proud and avid supporter in his grandchildren’s lives, never missing any event that they were participating in.
He leaves two daughters: Deborah Ingerson and her husband Ron Stevens of E. Nassau, N.Y., and Kathy Ives and her husband Eric of South Egremont; a step brother Michael Gilmore of Egremont; four grandchildren, Eric Kosik, Sawyer Ingerson, Christopher Ives, and Brandi Ives; and two great grandchildren, Mercedes Jade Kosik, and Mason Lyle Kosik. Besides his parents Tag was also predeceased by one sister Lois B. Keefner.
Funeral services for Bruce E. Tag Taggart who died December 17 will be held on Thursday December 22, at 10 a.m. with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Peter Church, Great Barrington, with the Rev. William P. Murphy, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday December 21, from 3-6 p.m. at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home.
