Picture postcard property: Rambling 18th century farmhouse painstakingly renovated from stem to stern, on 84 acres with open views
What’s the most compelling thing about this property?
The view from this perfectly renovated 1766 farmhouse over 86 acres of mostly conserved land, is magical and always gives me pause, yet even with that sylvan landscape out every window, one may walk to the Monterey General Store or the town beach at Lake Garfield – best of both worlds.
For whom is this house perfect?
I imagine multiple generations of family and friends filling the house with laughter and good cheer, creating large dinners, riding horses, playing tennis, and swimming in the pool with a view – all without having to leave the property.
What’s the most fun thing to do within five miles of this house?
Not only could one keep a boat at Lake Garfield to waterski, kayak, or play paddle board, but it’s the most beautiful short drive on a back dirt road straight to the Old Inn on the Green or Gedney Farm for some of the best dining on Berkshire County.
If this house could talk, what secret would it tell about its history?
A past owner was a board member of one of the largest financial institutions in America, but the most fun secret is the recent addition of a vast wine cellar, possibly the biggest in Monterey. What guests would not appreciate discovering that?
