Music on Main to present Eight Strings & a Whistle

Stockbridge — The First Congregational Church of Stockbridge’s Music on Main series will present New York City trio Eight Strings & a Whistle in a concert of music for flute, viola, and cello on Saturday, February 27, at 4 p.m. A light reception will follow.
Eight Strings & a Whistle has been captivating audiences throughout the United States since 1998 and is committed to presenting works and expanding the repertoire for the unique combination of flute, viola, and cello. The trio has championed Baroque, classical, and Romantic repertoire and collaborates regularly with living composers, premiering and performing their pieces throughout the concert season. Sunday’s program will include Albert Roussel’s Trio, Op. 40 and Edmund Cionek‘s “Bad Robots,” both from the Eight Strings & a Whistle’s recent release “Albert’s Window.” Selections by Bartok, Schubert, and Robert Davidson will also be performed.
There is a suggested donation of $20 ($15 for seniors and students) at the door. Proceeds from the Music on Main series help support the music ministry of the church. For more information contact Minister of Music Catherine Schane-Lydon at (413) 298-3137 x14.

Human Library at Williams College
Williamstown — Williams College invites all members of the community to experience its Human Library on Friday, February 26, and Saturday, February 27, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Paresky Student Center. The event is free.
The Williams Human Library contains nearly 60 “books:” Williams students, faculty, staff, and community members who have volunteered to be “borrowed” for up to 30 minutes each. Each “reader” will be able to have a one-on-one conversation with the “book,” who will share his or her story and answer questions posed by the reader.
In this fifth year of the event, the selection of books includes “Parent of a Type 1 Diabetic,” “Muslim Feminist,” “Woman Marine Veteran,” and “Rastafarian.” The Human Library is an innovative project designed to spark dialogue, reduce prejudices, and encourage understanding and uncomfortable learning. Typically organized by municipal libraries, the Human Library has an international community that includes Australia, Lithuania, Spain, Turkey, and the United States.
