BITS & BYTES – HAPPENING SOON: Capital Region Classical presents Terra String Quartet; The Salisbury Four at Chesterwood; Heart & Soil Collective fundraiser; Bluegrass at Lake Mansfield; Great Barrington Historical Society barn sale

These four musicians hail from across the globe, and through their unique individuality as artists, are committed to infusing the string quartet with equal parts passion, spontaneity, and humor.

Capital Region Classical presents Terra String Quartet at Tannery Pond 

New Lebanon, N.Y.— On Saturday, August 31st at 7:30 p.m., Capital Region Classical presents Terra String Quartet at Tannery Pond. 

Prizewinners at both the 2023 Melbourne and Osaka International competitions, the Terra String Quartet is a vibrant young international ensemble composed of graduates of The Juilliard School, New England Conservatory, Harvard University, and the Curtis Institute of Music. These four musicians hail from across the globe, and through their unique individuality as artists, are committed to infusing the string quartet with equal parts passion, spontaneity, and humor. 

The quartet has performed at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center with cellist Natasha Brofsky, and Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival’s Winter Workshop Robert McDonald. Recent tours include performances at the Chesapeake Chamber Music Festival and the Emilia-Romagna Festival in Italy. 

The Terra Quartet is the recipient of the Silver medal at the 2023 Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition, Bronze medal at the 2023 Osaka International Chamber Music Competition, and the Grand Prize and Gold Medal at the 2022 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. They were also awarded the Christine and David Anderson Career Development Prize at the 2022 Banff International String Quartet Competition.

The concert is on Saturday, August 31st at 7:30 p.m. at Tannery Pond at The Darrow School in New Lebanon, N.Y. Tickets and more information can be found online.

Chesterwood presents ‘Fortune, Love, and Time’ with The Salisbury Four

Stockbridge— On Saturday, August 31st at 5:30 p.m., Chesterwood presents “Fortune, Love, and Time” with The Salisbury Four.

The program will include the lute, historical harp, voices, recorder, and Baroque dance featuring the works by Monteverdi, Purcell, and others from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The Salisbury Four ensemble members include Zahra Brown, soprano; Judith Dansker, recorder; Christopher Morrongiello, lute; and Marcia Young, soprano and Renaissance harp.

The concert is on Saturday, August 31st at 5:30 p.m. at Chesterwood at 4 Williamsville Road in  Stockbridge. The audience is invited to meet the musicians at a complimentary post-show reception. Tickets and more information can be found online.

Heart & Soil Collective hosts Farm-To-Table fundraiser

Pittsfield— On Saturday, August 31st from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Heart & Soil Collective hosts a Farm-To-Table fundraiser. 

Join Heart & Soil Collective for a Farm-To-Table Dinner highlighting their amazing partner farms and the organization’s ongoing work to provide free, fresh food to homes across Berkshire County. The organization’s local food programming supports small farms through purchasing fresh produce, and supports seniors and families by delivering directly to homes at no cost for participation.

From 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., enjoy hors d’oeuvres from the farm, learn about Heart & Soil Collective’s impacts, and hear from the local farmers who’s partnerships make the organization’s local food programming possible. From 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., enjoy a five-course meal made with ingredients grown right here in the Berkshires. 

The fundraiser is on Saturday, August 31st from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Dottie’s Coffee Lounge at 444 North Street in Pittsfield. More information can be found online.

Great Barrington Land Conservancy presents Bluegrass at Lake Mansfield

Great Barrington— On Saturday, August 31st from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Great Barrington Land Conservancy presents Bluegrass at Lake Mansfield. 

Come by Lake Mansfield for an afternoon fundraiser with the Great Barrington Land Conservancy (GBLC) to celebrate community and the surrounding natural areas we love. This special event will feature the bluegrass trio of Kate Ritter Roblin on fiddle, Sam Clement on guitar, and Dave Lawlor on mandolin

Great Barrington Historical Society community barn sale

Great Barrington— On Saturday, August 31st and Sunday, September 1st from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Great Barrington Historical Society is having a Community Barn Sale, Tag Sale, and Antique and Crafts Show at their museum at 817 South Main Street in Great Barrington.

Along with all the vendors, Saturday’s activities include appraisals by Charles Flint in the Jane Fitzpatrick Wagon House. Donations for appraisals are $10 for one item and $25 for three items with all proceeds benefiting the Historical Society. There will be a performance by the Eagles Brass Band and a silent auction.
