Triplex Cinema announces that legendary actor Bill Murray will visit the Triplex for 20th anniversary screening of Wes Anderson’s ‘The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou’

Great Barrington— On Sunday, October 13th at 7:30 p.m., the Triplex Cinema is thrilled to announce that legendary actor Bill Murray will visit the Triplex for a special 20th anniversary screening of Wes Anderson’s “The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou.”

Murray plays Steve Zissou, an eccentric oceanographer who sets out with his crew to exact revenge on the jaguar shark that ate his partner Esteban. Filmed in and around Rome, Naples, and the Amalfi Coast, “Life Aquatic” has garnered a cult following since its initial release twenty years ago this December. The film also stars Owen Wilson, Cate Blanchett, Anjelica Huston, Willem Dafoe, and Jeff Goldblum.

In 1977 Bill Murray leaped to stardom as a featured cast member of Saturday Night Live. Soon after, he appeared in a series of films which established him as one of the box office stars of his time. These films included “Meatballs,” “Caddyshack,” “Stripes,” “Ghostbusters,” “What About Bob,” and “Groundhog Day.” During this period he also had a number of supporting roles including the films “Tootsie,” “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Ed Wood,” and “Kingpin.” In 1998 he collaborated with director Wes Anderson on the film “Rushmore,” which was followed by other Anderson films including “The Royal Tenenbaums,” “The Darjeeling Limited,” “ Fantastic Mr. Fox,” “Moonrise Kingdom,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” and “The French Dispatch.” In 2003 Murray starred in Sofia Coppola’s film “Lost in Translation” for which he won a Golden Globe and BAFTA award and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor.

Triplex Board of Directors President Nicki Wilson said: “This is beyond exciting, the uniquely talented Bill Murray coming to the Triplex with “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.” We could not be more enthused and his role as Steve Zissou is one of his best and one of our favorites.”

The screening is on Sunday, October 13th at 7:30 p.m. at the Triplex Cinema located at 70 Railroad Street in Great Barrington. There will be a post-screening Q&A with Murray. Tickets $75 for members and $100 for non-members. Tickets, memberships, and more information can be found online.

Ghent Playhouse’s 50th Anniversary Season opens with ‘The Outsider’

Ghent, N.Y.— From October 11th through the 20th, the Ghent Playhouse’s 50th Anniversary Season opens with Paul Slade Smith’s razor-sharp political satire, “The Outsider,” directed by Sky Vogel.

A wildly-funny sneak-peek behind the scenes of American politics, “The Outsider” is also clever, insightful and inspirational. In the midst of a political scandal, Lieutenant Governor Ned Newley, suddenly finds himself thrust into the position of Governor. A pure policy wonk, Ned is the furthest thing from a politician. In fact, he is exactly what the public is looking for: the worst candidate to ever run for public office… or is he?

“The timeliness of this show, what with the upcoming national election, is a major reason the Ghent Playhouse chose it to lead off their 50th anniversary season,” director Sky Vogel says. “It’s a wonderfully topical story about the political process in this country. It’s very warmhearted, not at all partisan, and funny on every page.”

Performances run from October 11th through the 20th at the Ghent Playhouse located at 6 Town Hall Place in Ghent, N.Y. Tickets and more information can be found online.

OLLI at BCC Performing Arts Initiative presents Jesse Waldinger’s ‘Six Grandfathers’ and ‘Rabbi Franklin’s Model T’

Pittsfield— On Tuesday, October 8th at 7 p.m., OLLI at BCC Performing Arts Initiative presents two staged readings, Jesse Waldinger’s “Six Grandfathers” and “Rabbi Franklin’s Model T” read by the OLLI Players, a reader’s theater company.

“Rabbi Franklin’s Model T” is set in Dearborn, Michigan in 1920. Henry Ford’s neighbor and friend, a Rabbi to whom the automobile magnate has annually presented a new car as a gift, protests the anti-Semitic diatribes that appear in the company paper. Ford is unmoved.

“Six Grandfathers” is the Oglala Lakota name for Mount Rushmore. Set in South Dakota  in 1927, Gutzon Borglum, noted sculptor of Mount Rushmore, is confronted by a native woman who credibly accuses him of cavorting with the Ku Klux Klan and trampling Indian treaty rights.

The readings are on Tuesday, October 8th at 7 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church located at 74 First Street in Pittsfield. They are free and open to all. More information can be found online.
