The Mahaiwe presents an intimate night of stories and sings with Bobby Rush

Great Barrington— On Friday, March 14th at 8 p.m., The Mahaiwe presents an intimate night of stories and sings with Grammy-award winner Bobby Rush.

During his renowned stage show, Bobby Rush frequently jumps high into the air, arms spread and legs tucked, only to land gracefully and return without a hitch to his dazzling routine. It’s a move you might expect at a contemporary R&B show, but it’s downright shocking when you realize that Rush is in his late 80s. “I never thought I would be here this long,” says Rush. “I was 83 years old before I won a Grammy, but it’s better late than never.”

Rush’s busy schedule includes headlining European festivals with his band and solo programs at venues including Jazz at Lincoln Center. He recently recorded an album of brand new material coming out via his own label Deep Rush Records, in collaboration with Nashville-based Thirty Tigers. Over the last several years, he’s won a second Grammy, re-recorded his 1971 hit “Chicken Heads” together with his old friend Buddy Guy and young blues star Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, and written a critically acclaimed autobiography, “I Ain’t Studdin’ You: My American Blues Story.”

The concert is on Friday, March 14th at 8 p.m. at The Mahaiwe’s new venue, the Indigo Room, located at 20 Castle Street in Great Barrington. Tickets and more information can be found online.

Clark Art Institute continues small town film series with a screening of ‘George Washington’

Williamstown— On Thursday, March 13th at 6 p.m., the Clark Art Institute continues its small town film series with a screening of “George Washington” (2000).

This film unfolds during a balmy July in a North Carolina town where kudzu embraces abandoned buildings. Four children at the edge of adolescence make a mistake that cannot be undone. They are forced to grow up, albeit only partially. One of them, George (Donald Holden,) emerges as a local hero. Sublimely narrated by the twelve-year-old Nasia (Candace Evanofski,) George Washington is about the relationship between choice and chance, and the aspirations that still prevail outside of it. Made on a shoestring budget with non-actors, David Gordon Green succeeds in directing a debut film unlike any other.
