Williamstown — New York Times vice president and assistant general counsel David E. McCraw will speak at Williams College on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 7:30 p.m. McCraw will speak on “Freedom of the Press in the Age of Trump” in Room 3 of Griffin Hall.

McCraw authored the Times’ response to a request from an attorney for Donald Trump to retract an article printed on Oct. 12, 2016, in which two women accused Trump of touching them inappropriately, and issue an apology. McCraw declined the request on behalf of the Times, saying, “It would be a disservice not just to our readers but to democracy itself to silence their voices.”

Responsible for newsroom legal issues and litigation, McCraw has been at the Times since 2002. He is a member of the executive committee of the New York City Bar and the former chair of its Communication and Media Law Committee. He also serves on the Vance Center Committee. An adjunct professor at New York University School of Law, he is a graduate of Albany Law School, Cornell University and the University of Illinois.

‘The Apples of Our ‘i’’ digital art exhibit

'Celebration' by Nina Lipkowitz
‘Celebration’ by Nina Lipkowitz

Sheffield — Berkshire School’s Warren Family Gallery will host an opening reception for “The Apples of Our ‘i,’” a digital art exhibit by John and Nina Lipkowitz, on Tuesday, Jan. 10, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The exhibit will be on display through Friday, March 10.

Intrigued by the creative possibilities of using Apple portable devices to make art, John and Nina Lipkowitz wanted to create a show combining Nina’s mid-century, abstract iPad prints with John’s iPhone photographs taken at Hancock Shaker Village and digitally processed with antiquing filters to mimic historical photographic processes and various aging effects.

Nina Lipkowitz was born and spent most of her adult life in New York City, where she received her degree in art history and later studied at the Art Students League. She has been a sculptor, a potter, a painter and a yoga teacher. Living in Great Barrington, she has found her voice painting watercolors and abstract iPad paintings printed as archival pigment prints.

For more than five decades photographer and former New York City attorney, John Lipkowitz has loved visiting living museums. During a visit to Hancock Shaker Village in 2014, after having read about and seen examples of the uses of iPhone photography, he traded his traditional camera for his iPhone and some of the antiquing filters then available.
