Lenox— On Thursday, November 21st from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Life House and Art in the Berkshires presents ‘Visual Sound,Translating Music into Vibrant Abstracts’ with Shany Porras, as part of their Fireside Chats with Berkshire Artists series.
Experience the synergy between music and visual art with Shany Porras, an artist who translates sound into vibrant, abstract compositions. In this unique session, Porras will demonstrate how she translates the energy, rhythm, and emotion of music into striking visual forms, discussing the use of color, shape, and movement to evoke the sensation of sound on canvas, offering a fresh perspective on the powerful connections between auditory and visual experiences.

Great Barrington— From November 23rd through January 6th, Childs+Clark Gallery and Lauren Clark Fine Art present “Small is Beautiful,” a dual group show of small works for the festive season, featuring paintings, glass, ceramics, and sculpture.

Holiday time is here around and those in the art “biz” hope once again that people will consider the gift of art for their loved ones. And why not? No moving parts. No planned obsolescence. No expiration date. There’s an intimacy in these small works you won’t see in their larger forms, and one can always find a spot for them. The Clark and The Mahaiwe present The Metropolitan Opera’s broadcast of ‘Tosca’
Williamstown/Great Barrington— On Sunday, November 24th at 1 p.m., The Clark Art Institute and The Mahaiwe Performing Art Center present The Metropolitan Opera’s broadcast of “Tosca, the latest installment of the 2024–25 season of The Met: Live in HD.
Extraordinary Norwegian soprano Lise Davidsen stars as the passionate title diva in David McVicar’s thrilling production. British-Italian tenor Freddie De Tommaso makes his eagerly anticipated company debut as Tosca’s revolutionary lover, Cavaradossi, and powerhouse American baritone Quinn Kelsey is the sadistic chief of police Scarpia. Maestro Xian Zhang conducts the electrifying score, which features some of Puccini’s most memorable melodies.

The pre-recorded broadcast is on Sunday, November 24th at 1 p.m. at The Clark, located at 225 South Street in Williamstown and at The Mahaiwe, located at 14 Castle Street in Great Barrington. Tickets and more information can be found online: The Clark/The Mahaiwe.
In conjunction with the broadcast, The Clark will present a special pop-up exhibition, a sampling of prints, drawings, and photographs inspired by Rome, the setting of Puccini’s melodrama. The pop-up exhibition is free and on view before the broadcast from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

With a subtle touch for turning up pure song-stuff out of life, channeling the likes of Marshall Crenshaw and Tom Petty, of Lucinda Williams and Bruce Springsteen, of the Wallflowers and Keane, Manzi offers you his singular take on what contemporary pop-rock can be. Opening for acts like Ron Sexsmith, NRBQ, Lori McKenna, Tomberlin, and Chris Collingwood, and collaborating with artists like Don Was and Mikaela Davis, Madison Cunningham and Dawes’s Griffin & Taylor Goldsmith, Jake Manzi is a songwriter to be reckoned with and a unique talent to be enjoyed.

Lenox Library to host book signing with award-winning illustrator Ruth Sanderson
Lenox— On Saturday, November 23rd at 10:30 a.m., Lenox Library will host book signing with award-winning illustrator Ruth Sanderson.

In their newest book, “Good Morning, Farm Animals: An Active Play Storybook,” mother-daughter team Ruth and Whitney Sanderson encourage children to move, moo, and stretch along with the characters in the book as they mimic the movements of farm animal friends in the morning. Can they frolic like a lamb? Balance like a goat?
At this program, artist Ruth Sanderson will read the book and project illustrations on a screen. The audience is encouraged to imitate the sounds and movements of the animals for a fun-filled active story-time, which will be followed by a craft.
Over her long and award-winning career, Ruth Sanderson has illustrated over 90 books for children of all ages. Her collection of titles include her numerous fairytale retellings and “A Storm of Horses: The Story of Artist Rosa Bonheur.” She collaborated with her daughter Whitney Sanderson on five titles in the “Horse Diaries” chapter book series from Random House, as well as on “Good Morning, Farm Animals and Good Night, Farm Animals.”
