American Mural Project presents ‘Recycled Runway’

Winsted, Conn.— On Saturday, May 10th at 7 p.m., American Mural Project presents “Recycled Runway,” a playful celebration that brings wearable art made from repurposed materials to the catwalk.

Designers of all ages and skill levels, from professional artists to first-time creators, will showcase original fashion designs crafted from at least 75 percent repurposed materials that would otherwise become landfill, demonstrating that innovation can be both sustainable and entertaining. Against the backdrop of AMP’s 120-foot-long, five-story indoor mural honoring American workers, models will strut the runway in imaginative creations, with comedic playwright Jacques Lamarre providing witty commentary as emcee.

Lauren Clark Fine Art presents ‘Opposites Attract,’ works by Erika Larskaya and Peggy Reeves

Great Barrington— From May 10th through June 14th, Lauren Clark Fine Art presents “Opposites Attract,” works by Erika Larskaya and Peggy Reeves.

Erika Larskaya is an abstract artist working in acrylics and mixed media. Although she has studied formally and still enjoys some of the traditional, foundational processes such as figure drawing, her passion for experimentation and pushing boundaries has driven her to expand beyond the conventional and, over time, she has evolved her own, solo methodology and technique, driven by her desire to express things that are not seen, but rather felt.

Peggy Reeves works primarily with light sensitive and cameraless photographic processes. Her chemigrams are hybrids of chemistry-based photography and painting. Subsequent digital editing finalizes these works, creating what Reeves considers “a metaphor for natural and man-made forces on the environment.”

The exhibit runs from May 10th through June 14th at Lauren Clark Fine Art, located at 684 Main Street in Great Barrington. There is an opening reception on Saturday, May 10th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. More information can be found online.

Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art presents award-winning artist and author Barbara McClintock to deliver 2025 Barbara Elleman Research Library Lecture

Amherst— On Saturday, May 10th at 1 p.m., the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art presents award-winning artist and author Barbara McClintock to deliver the 2025 Barbara Elleman Research Library Lecture.

McClintock’s talk, entitled “For the Love of a Dog,” addresses how she illustrated Tomie dePaola’s last complete manuscript, “Where Are You, Brontë?” In this touching story about love, loss, and remembrance, the children’s book legend tells an emotional and deeply personal story about overcoming his grief after the loss of his pet. In McClintock’s own words, “The message of ‘Where Are You, Brontë?’ goes beyond the loss of Tomie’s beloved dog and helps find a way forward through grief for anyone who was deeply loved.”

Her books have received numerous awards and citations, including five New York Times Best Illustrated Picture Book Awards, three ALA Notable Book Citations, a Boston Globe/Horn Book Honor Award, and two Golden Kite Honor Awards. Her work has been exhibited at The Carle: Barbara McClintock: The Heartaches of a French Cat in 2011 and in the exhibition, Natalie Merchant and Barbara McClintock: Leave Your Sleep in 2013 – 2014. A former Carle Trustee, McClintock’s art has been featured in more than seven group exhibitions. McClintock donated work from Heartaches of a French Cat to The Carle’s collection.
