Natural Dyeing Workshop and Group Art Exhibition at Hunt Library

Falls Village — On Saturday October 15 at 11 a.m., the Hunt Library in Falls Village will present an outdoor workshop on dyeing with natural, botanical ingredients led by Carly Sugar, ADAMAH program director at Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center.  Attendees will learn about which plants to use, how to gather them, and techniques for dyeing.  Each participant will be given a silk scarf to dye during the class. ALSO on October 15 from 3 to 5 p.m. the Hunt Library will host the group art exhibition “Amuse-bouche: An Appetite for Art.” Featuring a cornucopia of painting, photography, and sculpture celebrating our relationship with all things culinary, organized by Garth Kobal. 10K and 5K Run for the Hills at Simon’s Rock

Great Barrington — Run for the Hills, the Great Barrington Land Conservancy’s traditional 10K and 5K road race is on Sunday, October 16th. Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are invited to enjoy the peak fall foliage and help GBLC to raise the funds needed to promote conservation, farm preservation, and community trails.

For 30 years the Great Barrington Land Conservancy has added to the beauty of the Berkshires by promoting land conservation, farm preservation, and community trails. In September 2020 GBLC opened the new Riverfront Trail which continues access along the Housatonic River south of from the ever popular River Walk. Families enjoy hiking along the Lake Mansfield Trails, which are enhanced annually, and swimming, canoeing and skating on the Lake.  The Pfeiffer Arboretum offers a walking loop that includes an observation platform with a beautiful view of Long Pond.

Music at Trinity Kicks Off with Music for the Dance

Lenox — Music at Trinity and the Cantilena Chamber Choir present Music for the Dance with the Palmer Trio on Sunday, October 16 at 3 p.m. at Trinity Church. This is the inaugural concert of Music at Trinity Lenox concert program.

The concert will feature a unique combination of choral and chamber music performed by the Cantilena Chamber Choir and the trio of Music for the Dance, a program that includes the Monteverdi ballet Tirsi e Clori, Brahms Zigeunerlieder (Gypsy songs), Afro-Cuban cadences and  choral arrangements of popular favorites from the movies and theater such as Singing in the Rain and more. Chamber music portions of the concert include dance music by Elizondo, De Falla, and the jazzy Piazzolla Fall from the Four Seasons for piano trio.

Concert tickets are $25 adults, $20 students/seniors (65 and over), and free for children 12 and under. Trinity Church is at 88 Walker Street in Lenox. The Brien Center Celebrates 100+ Years with Concert

Pittsfield — The Brien Center for Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services will celebrate its 100+ anniversary at the Colonial Theatre on October 22nd at 6:30 p.m. with a performance by the acclaimed Me2/Orchestra.

The Brien Center was founded in 1920 but was postponed due to the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. Caroline and James Taylor will serve as Honorary Chairs with Lori Kiely, Marybeth Mitts, and Tim Burke will serve as Benefit Chair.

Me2/Orchestra is the world’s only classical music organization created for individuals living with mental illness and the people who support them. Me2/ Orchestra includes 60 musician-activists and features musicians spanning six decades in age, from their 20’s-80’s. Approximately half of the musicians on stage are living with a mental illness, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, eating disorders, PTSD, OCD, and addiction. Together, they work in a stigma-free zone where supporting each other is a priority.

Jonathan Dely

Jazz Musician Jonathan Dely Performs at the Clark

Williamstown — On Saturday, October 15 at 7 p.m. jazz trumpeter and Williams College alumnus Jonathan Dely returns to the Clark auditorium to perform in concert with his band. The program features an exciting lineup of jazz, pop, and selections from the American Songbook.

Dely is an award-winning trumpet soloist from Long Island, New York. He earned a master’s degree in jazz trumpet performance at the Manhattan School of Music in 2017. Dely is recognized as a rising star in New York, with his band in high demand for events ranging from private engagements to ticketed concerts. Dely has become a prolific performer at venues including Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center, Blue Note NYC, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Django, Highline Ballroom, and the Princeton Club of New York, where he serves as Artist in Residence.

When [Salmon Salmon [Salmon]] and The Belly Is A Garden

Annandale-on-Hudson — Two events are happening this weekend, October 13-16 at varying times. The Fisher Center LAB Biennial is a thematic festival that invites and commissions artists to create new works that grapple with some of the most pressing questions of our time. The 2022-23 edition, Common Ground, is a year-long international program focusing on the politics of land and food and taking place on four continents.

When [Salmon Salmon [Salmon]] by Cooking Sections, is a trilogy of performative installations tracing the effects of salmon farms on multiple ecologies. The three works focus on the impact of food production based on extractive systems that push the environment to the verge of collapse. Part 1 is a lecture performance, Part 2 is an immersive video installation, and Part 3 is a performative installation. The Belly Is A Garden is an interactive conversation at Bard Farm. Walk alongside seed keeper and artist Vivien Sansour and join in conversation about the diversity of plants growing at Bard Farm and consider how we share the world and how we interact with it.
