Norman Rockwell Museum to offer armed forces illustration lecture

Stockbridge — The Norman Rockwell Museum will host the virtual lecture “Embedded: Illustrators and the Armed Forces” Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m.

The lecture will feature Kristopher Battles, Michael Fay, Victor Charles Juhasz, Elize McKelvey and Steve Mumford, who will discuss their experiences as embedded illustrators across the branches of the armed forces and the power of art to tell personal stories. The history of artists working in the field, from the American Civil War to America’s more recent engagement in the Middle East, will be explored.

Berkshire Community Land Trust to virtually screen ‘One Big Home’

Great Barrington — On Thursday, Nov. 12, at 5 p.m., the Berkshire Community Land Trust will host a virtual screening of “One Big Home,” a documentary film about trophy homes on Martha’s Vineyard and the community’s effort to curb gentrification.

Released in 2016, “One Big Home” follows carpenter Thomas Bena’s 12-year journey to understand the trend toward giant houses. The film explores the effect that trophy homes and mega-mansions have had on the local community, its permanent residents and the character of Martha’s Vineyard. The film runs 88 minutes. Following the film at 6:30 p.m., Berkshire Community Land Trust board members will facilitate a conversation about opportunities for affordable housing in the region.

Lenox Library lecture series to present Tony Cenicola

Lenox — The Lenox Library will continue its Distinguished Lecture Series of virtual talks Sunday, Nov. 15, at 4 p.m. with New York Times photojournalist Tony Cenicola, whose topic will be “My Life as a Chameleon (Assignment Photographer) for the New York Times.”

Cenicola joined the New York Times 1999. He began as a freelancer and became staff in 2000 as the primary studio photographer. His work has since expanded to include fieldwork in international and domestic travel, real estate, dining and the arts. He was cinematographer for the 2010 film “Bill Cunningham: New York” and chased Mr. Cunningham all over New York City and Paris for a year. Before establishing his own studio in 1984 with a specialty in tabletop still-lifes, Cenicola was a photo assistant in many commercial studios in New York City. One of the highlights of his early career was working with photographer/painter Saul Leiter.

Williamstown Theatre Festival to offer online theater design workshop

Williamstown — On Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 5 p.m., Williamstown Theatre Festival will offer a livestreamed Community Works theater design workshop with scenic designer Riw Rakkulchon and costume designer Nicole Slaven via its Facebook page. No prior experience is necessary and all ages are welcome. A Facebook RSVP is not required to attend. A captioned recording of the workshop will be made available.
