West Stockbridge— On Tuesday, October 1st at 7:30 p.m., The Foundry presents Skye Consort & Emma Björling.

Skye Consort and Emma Björling perform trans-Atlantic arrangements of songs and tunes from Sweden, Norway, Ireland, Scotland, England, Québec, Acadia, and the Unites States. Each musician brings their own individual interpretation to these traditions to create an extraordinary collaboration of voices, fiddle, nyckelharpa, cello, bouzouki, banjo, and percussion. Collectively, the band presents an assortment of whirling polskas, groovy reels, passionate love songs, breathtaking hymns, and original compositions.

The concert is on Tuesday, October 1st at 7:30 p.m. at The Foundry at 2 Harris Street in West Stockbridge. Tickets and more information can be found online.

Norman Rockwell Museum Unity Project 2024

Stockbridge— Through election season, Norman Rockwell Museum is proud to announce the launch of the Unity Project 2024, a get-out-the-vote campaign that harnesses the power of illustration art to inspire and motivate voting in the upcoming presidential election.

The Unity Project uses compelling illustration art to inspire social good in the tradition of Norman Rockwell. Published primarily through social media, the campaign features striking images and voting messages from six top contemporary illustrators who reach a wide range of audiences, Monica Ahanonu, Lisk Feng, Timothy Goodman, Edel Rodriguez, Gary Taxali, and Shar Tuiasoa/Punky Aloha.

This dynamic digital poster campaign has been launched over social media and will be followed by a cadenced release of images, messages, and voting resources leading up to Election Day. In addition, the public is encouraged to access and share images and resources at unity.nrm.org. 

Through election season, the original artwork will be on view as a featured installation at the Norman Rockwell Museum at 9 Glendale Road in Stockbridge. More information can be found online.

Community Access to the Arts and The Mount to present a reading celebrating the work of writers with disabilities

Lenox— On Tuesday, October 1st at 5 p.m., Community Access to the Arts (CATA) and The Mount present a reading celebrating the work of writers with disabilities.

The event will feature guest readers in a program of poignant, humorous, and heartfelt writing created in the CATA Writers’ Workshop, a weekly class where writers with disabilities hone their craft and express their perspectives. CATA faculty artist Janet Reich Elsbach, a talented writer and teacher, leads the workshop with an inventive curriculum that helps each CATA writer develop their own style in short stories, autobiography, and poetry. Some CATA writers work with “scribes” to help them put their ideas on paper.

The free reading is on Tuesday, October 1st at 5 p.m. at The Mount at 2 Plunkett Street in Lenox. The reading will be followed by a reception where attendees can meet and celebrate the writers. Registration and more information can be found online.

43rd Annual Lenox Apple Squeeze

Lenox— On Saturday September 28th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Lenox Chamber of Commerce will host its 43rd Lenox Apple Squeeze, a one-day fall festival that takes over the town of Lenox featuring over 80 artisan crafts, food, and information vendor tents lined up and down the Main Street sidewalks.

Attendees can browse through local handcrafted jewelry, woven baskets, candles, quilts, photography, woodworks, and more; enjoy cider donuts from Shire Donuts, mile high cakes from Mary Zabian, Mazz’s Kettle Corn, and international fare from Naji’s Mediterranean, Lucia’s Latin Kitchen. The local downtown merchants will also have sidewalk sales at local merchants and galleries.

The Morris PTO will once again take over Lilac Park for their Kids Carnival with inflatable toys, games, bake sale, and Balloon Ben, who will be making balloon art throughout the day. New this year will be the “Apple Orchard” at St. Anns which will have family activities and a town wide Apple Pie Contest and live music by Chantell featuring the Diego Mongue Band.

This year also there will be a street party with a beer truck by Antimony Brewing beer truck; food by Momma  Lo’s BBQ, Cello, and Charlie’s Bistro Bus; live music by Susan Bile Music, Colby Lewis and The Lucky 4, and The Berkshire Rhythm Keepers.

OLLI presents the Berkshire Theatre Critics Panel

Pittsfield— On Tuesday, October 1st at 3:30 p.m., OLLI presents the Berkshire Theatre Critics Panel, a virtual presentation.

The Berkshire Theatre Critics Panel returns for an in-depth discussion and review of the 2024 theatre season in the Berkshires. The discussion will be moderated by Naomi Spatz. Participating theatre critics include Peter Bergman of The Berkshire Edge and Berkshire Bright Focus, Jeff Borak of The Berkshire Eagle; and Macey Levin, Barbara Waldinger, and Jeannie Woods of Berkshire On Stage. Hear their thoughts on the hits and misses of the 2024 season and add your contribution.

The virtual event is on Tuesday, October 1st at 3:30 p.m. on Zoom. It is free and open to the public. Registration and more information can be found online.
