Berkshire Art Center presents ‘Mixed Media Madness,’ taught by artist Diane Firtell

Pittsfield— From May 1st through May 22, on Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Berkshire Art Center (BAC) presents ‘Mixed Media Madness,’ taught by artist and BAC instructor Diane Firtell. 

Get ready to roll up your sleeves and dive into a whirlwind of creativity. In this vibrant, hands-on art adventure, you’ll mix, mash, layer, and play with all kinds of media—think oil and acrylic painting, dreamy pastels, photography magic, image transfers, bold collages, and more. This is your chance to experiment freely, break the rules a little, and create art that’s totally, uniquely YOU. No pressure, just pure creative joy.

The classes run from May 1st through May 22, on Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the Berkshire Art Center, located at 141 North Street in Pittsfield. Registration and more information can be found online.

Becket Arts Center presents the New England Mosaic Society members show

Becket— From May 2nd through May 25th, the Becket Arts Center presents the New England Mosaic Society members show. 

Founded in 2015 to promote mosaics as fine art, the New England Mosaic Society will exhibit selected pieces.

The exhibit runs from May 2nd through May 25th at the Becket Arts Center, located at 7 Brooker Hill Road in Becket. There will be an opening reception on Friday, May 2nd from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. More information can be found online.

Berkshire Guild of Berkshire Artists presents ‘Earth, Sea, Sky,’ a group exhibit at Art on Main Gallery

West Stockbridge— From May 1st through June1st, Berkshire Guild of Berkshire Artists presents “Earth, Sea, Sky,” a group exhibit at Art on Main Gallery.

Artists include Guild of Berkshire Artists members Julian Craker,  Alvin Ouelett, David Goldstein, and Sue Aiken, who presents each unique artist’s perspective of the elements of earth, sea and sky in watercolors, oils and clay.

Julian Craker combines his talent for watercolor landscapes with his woodworking skills to create color and form in his landscapes. Alvin Ouelett and Sue Aiken share plein air and studio impressions of these elements, so prominent in the Berkshires. David Goldstein, a ceramic artist, brings the element of the earth to his pieces.

The exhibit runs from May 1st through June1st at Art on Main Gallery, located at 38 Main Street in West Stockbridge. More information can be found online.

Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and MOSAIC present ‘Reclaiming Revolution: Intersections of Remembrance and Resistance’ a group exhibition at Gallery 51 

North Adams— From May 2nd through May 17th, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA), in collaboration with MOSAIC, will present “Reclaiming Revolution: Intersections of Remembrance and Resistance,” a group exhibition that explores the role of art in social change.

Curated by Max Fyfe, J.C. Innocent, Mannie McBride, Cleo Murphy, and Enaya A. Ogletree, the exhibition features senior capstone work that addresses themes of heritage, grief, identity, sustainability, and transformation. Through sculpture, animation, bookmaking, and painting, “Reclaiming Revolution” invites viewers into a conversation about how art can be a form of resistance, a tool for remembrance, and a path toward imagining a more just future.

The exhibit runs from May 2nd through May 17th at Gallery 51, located at  51 Main Street in  North Adams. There will be an opening reception on Friday, May 2nd from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. More information can be found online.

Berkshire County Historical Society commemorates famous ‘Meeting at Easton’s Tavern’

Pittsfield— On Thursday, May 1st at 4 p.m., Berkshire County Historical Society, along with the Berkshire Museum and the Berkshire Athenaeum, commemorates the famous “Meeting at Easton’s Tavern.”

On May 1st, 1775, a group met at Easton’s Tavern. Col. James Easton, John Brown of Pittsfield, and Captain Edward Mott of Preston, Connecticut planned the capture of Fort Ticonderoga from the small tavern under the cover of darkness, setting the course that would result in American independence in 1783.

Berkshire Museum’s Collections Manager Jason Vivori will be on hand to talk more about this rich history, as well as highlighting and discussing items from one of the museum’s upcoming MoMU’s (Mobile Museum Units), including a replica of John Brown’s vest and a reproduction of an 18th century beer flagon recently found during excavations near the original Easton’s Tavern site.

The commemoration is on Thursday, May 1st at 4 p.m. at Park Square, located at 1 Bank Row in Pittsfield. After the presentation, the group will move to Patrick’s Pub for a pint of ale. More information can be found online.

Lenox Chamber of Commerce presents a job fair at Lenox Town Hall

Lenox— On Wednesday, April 30th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Lenox Chamber of Commerce presents its 3rd job fair at Lenox Town Hall, located at 6 Walker Street in Lenox.

Participants from across Berkshire County represent hospitality, retail, and cultural organizations offering seasonal and year-round part-time, full-time, and internship opportunities. This year’s participants will include Shakespeare & Co, Trustco Bank, Adams Community Bank, The Gifted Child, BerkshireJobs.com, Canyon Ranch, Bianco’s Limousine, Doctor Sax House, Apple Tree Inn, Design Menagerie, Sohn Fine Art, Tanglewood, and more.

The fair is free to attend, and no registration or appointments are required. It is recommended that job seekers bring several copies of their resume with them. More information can be found online.

Berkshire Community College and partners to host ‘Second Chances Job Fair’

Pittsfield— On Wednesday, April 30th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Berkshire Community College (BCC), in collaboration with Berkshire County Jail and House of Correction, Berkshire District Attorney’s Office, MassHire Berkshire Career Center, and Berkshire Innovation Center, will hold the Second Chances Job and Resource Fair at Berkshire Innovation Center, located at 45 Woodlawn Avenue in Pittsfield.

The job fair is free and open to the public. Formerly incarcerated individuals, including those who may have been justice involved and/or who have a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) file, are particularly encouraged to attend. Walk-ins are welcome and no registration is required.

For those in need of transportation, roundtrip shuttle service will be provided to the job fair. Pickup at 3:30 p.m. is available at the following locations:

  • Joseph Scelsi Intermodal Transportation Center, 1 Columbus Avenue, Pittsfield
  • Rural Recovery Resources, 67 State Road, Great Barrington
  • Main Street Bus Stop, 70 Main Street, North Adams

New this year, Greylock Federal Credit Union will host a 30-minute “50/30/20 Rule” workshop to learn a simple rule of thumb that helps you budget your money. This rule provides a way to divide up your money, making it easier to pay for your expenses while still saving money for emergencies or large purchases.
