Turn Park Art Space to present Tom Gold Dance

West Stockbridge — Returning to the Berkshires for the fourth consecutive summer, Tom Gold Dance will give the world premiere of company founder and director Tom Gold’s “Apparatus Hominus” Friday, July 27, and Saturday, July 28, at Turn Park Art Space.

Inspired by Turn Park’s natural landscape and unique sculptural art, “Apparatus Hominus” is a piece for four dancers and set to selections from Nico Muhly’s “Drones” album and his soundtrack to the 2013 film “Kill Your Darlings.” “Apparatus Hominus” draws its name in part from the many inventive objects of metal found across Turn Park’s 16 acres. Currently scheduled to perform “Apparatus Hominus” are Tiffany Mori, Shoshana Rosenfield, Mary Elizabeth Sell and James Shee, collectively representing New York City Ballet, the National Ballet of Canada and St. Louis Ballet.

Founded in 2008 by former New York City Ballet soloist Tom Gold, Tom Gold Dance performs regularly in New York City and has traveled to France, Spain, Italy, Bermuda, Israel, Cuba and Bulgaria. Company highlights include three consecutive summer appearances in the Berkshires, and presentations of Gold’s adaptation of “November Steps” at Fondazione Palazzo Albizzini Collezione Burri in Città di Castello, Italy, and the Guggenheim in Bilbao, Spain. Tom Gold Dance celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2018, and will produce its inaugural fall season this November.

Berkshire Playwrights Lab to present ‘The Real Story’ by Bob Clyman

Great Barrington — Berkshire Playwrights Lab will present a staged reading of “The Real Story’ by Bob Clyman Wednesday, July 25, at 7:30 p.m. at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center.

In “The Real Story, eccentric freelance reporter Mark has always had a knack for observing people, guessing which ones have an interesting story they’ve never told anyone and drawing it out of them. When he decides to chat up Stuart during a long flight delay, the pleasant-but-reticent businessman doesn’t seem like a promising prospect. As he begins to describe how he unexpectedly became involved with a group of Peruvian rebels fighting the government, his story seems, if anything, too good to be true.

Bob Clyman’s plays have been produced off-Broadway and at regional theatres such as the Alley Theatre, Laguna Playhouse, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, San Jose Repertory Theatre, George Street Theatre and others. They have won a Sloan Foundation Award, a Eugene O’Neill Summer Conference Fellowship, two Edgerton Foundation New American Play Awards, a Geraldine Dodge Fellowship, two Ashland New Plays Festival Awards and a Stanley Drama Award while being nominated for an Outer Circle Critics Award and both Best Play and Best New Play by the Independent Reviewers of New England.

Tickets are $15. For tickets and information, see the Berkshire Edge calendar or call the Mahaiwe box office at (413) 528-0100.

Now striking out on his own with his debut LP “No Turning Back,” recorded in Stanfordville, New York, with producer/engineer Nick Kinsey, he mines his own history for stories of class struggle, nature, love, pain, work and family, all set against the backdrop of the Northeast.

Tickets are $10. For tickets and more information, see the Berkshire Edge calendar or contact the Egremont Barn at (413) 528-1570 or info@theegremontbarn.com.
