PS21 to premiere ‘Le sacre de Lila,’ by dancer-choreographer Ismaël Mouaraki

Chatham, N.Y.— On September 29th at 6:30 p.m., PS21 presents the U.S. premiere of ‘Le sacre de Lila,’ by dancer-choreographer Ismaël Mouaraki.

Le sacre de Lila, a profoundly personal work, traces Mouaraki’s own journey through France, Morocco, and Québec in his exploration of the mystical and musical traditions of Lila (“night,” in Arabic,) the nocturnal rituals of spiritual healing that employ the trance, song, music, and dance traditions of the Sufi communities of the Maghreb.

Created collaboratively with eight of his Destins Croisés dancers, themselves Moroccan and Québecois, Ismaël draws on childhood memories to reimagine Lila for the current moment, revealing the sensitivity and sensuality of the male body with choreography informed by his signature urban dance style and the mesmerizing electronic soundscape composed by Antoine Berthiaume.

The premiere is on September 29th at 6:30 p.m. at PS21’s Pavilion Theater at 2980 Route 66 in Chatham, N.Y. Tickets and more information can be found online.

The Foundry presents comediennes Carolyn Plummer and Kelly MacFarland

West Stockbridge— On Saturday, September 28th from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., The Foundry presents comediennes Carolyn Plummer and Kelly MacFarland.

Some comics rely on the monumental events of the day or the faux pas of the rich and famous. Not Carolyn Plummer. Plummer pulls material from the hum-drum, day-to-day monotony of the life of everyman, and she does it well. To her, the monumental is easy…it’s our existence that’s so hard, yet so ridiculous. Some women look in the mirror and complain because they aren’t pretty enough, not rich enough, not young enough. Carolyn gives her reflection the finger.

Plummer has been doing comedy professionally for over 20 years, traveling extensively, working at clubs, colleges, dead animal lodges, theaters, and corporations appearing with many of the top headliners in the business. She has participated in numerous festivals including the Burbank Comedy Festival; where she was named “Best of the Fest,” Boston Comedy Festival, and The Women in Comedy Festival. She also performed at Denis Leary’s “Comics Come Home.”
