Bits & Bytes: David Grover at the Whit; Ghent Playhouse auditions

David Grover, former guitarist for Arlo Guthrie, has been performing for children for over 30 years and is often called “the Jerry Garcia of the elementary school set."

Pittsfield – The Whitney Center for the Arts will present free weekly concerts for children with David Grover every Saturday in January, February, and March, 2016, at 11 a.m.

David Grover, former guitarist for Arlo Guthrie, has been performing for children for over 30 years. Referred to as “the Jerry Garcia of the elementary school set,” David Grover has released more than 20 albums, opened the Goodwill Games, and performed at the White House, on the Today show, and with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

Ghent Playhouse announces auditions for ‘Boeing, Boeing’

Ghent, N.Y. — The Ghent Playhouse has announced auditions for its March/April production of “Boeing, Boeing,” a comedy written by French playwright Marc Camoletti, translated by Beverley Cross and Francis Evans, and to be directed by Cathy Lee-Visscher.

Auditions will take place at the Playhouse on Tuesday, January 5 and Thursday, January 7, 2016. Sign-in will be at 7 p.m. and auditions will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The play, set in the 1960s, is a fast-paced farce relying on strong physical comedy that tells the story of a man juggling his three flight attendant fiancees. Six actors, two men and four women, are needed to play the parts of Bernard (early to late 40s), Berthe (40s to 60s, French accent), Gloria (25 to 35), Gabriella (25 to 35, Italian accent), Getchen (25 to 35, German accent), and Robert (early to late 40s).
