The inspiration of director Erika Ludwig, Berkshire Summer Strings is a unique opportunity for local music students to learn from instructors active in the performance and composition of traditional styles of music.

Workshops and community concerts with Berkshire Summer Strings

North Egremont — Berkshire Summer Strings will hold its youth program and adult workshops in traditional fiddle and contra dance music at French Park in North Egremont July 13 – 17. The inspiration of director Erika Ludwig, Berkshire Summer Strings is a unique opportunity for local music students to learn from instructors active in the performance and composition of traditional styles of music.

The youth program, which runs 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., begins with a community singing session and ends with a community jam session. Both daily community events are free and available to join on a drop-in basis. The adult workshops are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings at 5:15 p.m. Each night will feature a workshop or a new tune session and a jam session.

A double-header concert, beginning with the camper concert and followed by the staff concert, will bring the week to a close on Friday, July 17 at 5:30 p.m. The concerts are free but donations are welcome. All donations collected will benefit Berkshire Summer Strings’ Youth Program Scholarship Fund.

Free Summer Movies 
at Clapp Park & Beacon Cinema

PittsfieldGreylock Federal Credit Union has released the 2015 line-up for its free summer movie events. “CU at the Cinema” will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays through August 26 at the Beacon Cinema. “Movies at the Park” will be offered Friday evenings through August 7 at Clapp Park beginning at dusk.

‘CU at the Cinema’ schedule:

July 15: Indiana Jones – Raiders of the Lost Ark; July 22: The Princess Bride; July 29: Goonies; August 5: Shrek; August 12: Back to the Future; August 19: Hook; August 26: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

‘Movies at the Park’ schedule*:

July 17: Jumanji; July 24: Big Hero 6; July 31: The Lego Movie; August 7: Frozen

*Rain dates are 8/14 & 8/21. Attendees are reminded that these are family-friendly events and no alcohol is allowed. City of Pittsfield park rules apply.
