Councils on aging to hold luncheon

South Egremont — The Egremont and Mount Washington councils on aging invite all seniors to their complimentary luncheon and tea party honoring the towns’ 90-year-old residents Wednesday, Oct. 3, at noon at the Egremont Village Inn.
The menu will include homemade tea sandwiches and cookies, as well as Harney and Sons tea. Each Egremonter turning 90 this year will receive a yellow rose and a certificate from the office of Rep. William “Smitty” Pignatelli, D-Lenox, in recognition of achieving their advanced age. Because Egremont has experienced the loss of several of its nonagenarians and elderly 80-year-olds, their memories will be honored at the end of the luncheon with a short concert. The program will begin with Rachmaninoff’s “Vocalise” for soprano and piano performed by Egremont Village Inn owner and pianist Sara Keene and soprano Laura Danehower Whyte. Bass-baritone and Metropolitan Opera star John Cheek, accompanied by Keene, will sing “Off We Go Into the Wild Blue Yonder.” Cheek and Keene will end the concert with “Climb to Glory.”
To make reservations, contact the Egremont Town Hall at (413) 528-0182 x17 or wbrinker@egremont-ma.gov by Monday, Oct. 1, and include dietary restrictions and whether or not a ride is needed.
