Norman Rockwell Museum presents ‘Anita Kunz: Original Sisters, Portraits of Tenacity and Courage’
Stockbridge— From November 9th through May 26th, Norman Rockwell Museum presents “Anita Kunz: Original Sisters, Portraits of Tenacity and Courage.”
“Original Sisters” is a series of portraits that reveals and honors the contributions of history-making women. To create the series, award-winning illustrator Anita Kunz carefully researched, wrote about, and portrayed each subject, sometimes compiling scant available information to establish a more complete picture. Her portraits present famed and lesser-known women in the fields of art, science, technology and invention, education, history, and politics, offering a needed expansion and revision of the historical record.
Anita Kunz is an artist and illustrator whose art has been published widely and shown in galleries and museums all over the world. She has also been featured regularly in Time, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, GQ, The New York Times, Sports Illustrated, Newsweek, The Atlantic, and The New York Times Magazine, and she has done work for Sony Music. Kunz has also illustrated more than fifty book covers. From 1988 to 1990 she was one of two artists chosen by Rolling Stone to produce a monthly illustrated history of rock ’n’ roll endpaper. In 2017, she was inducted into the Society of Illustrators’ Museum of American Illustration Hall of Fame.
The exhibit runs from November 9th through May 26th at the Norman Rockwell Museum, located at 9 Glendale Road in Stockbridge. More information can be found online.

Congregation Ahavath Sholom presents ‘Tissot and the Hebrew Bible,’ a virtual tour from the New York Jewish Museum
Great Barrington— On Sunday, November 10th at 4 p.m., Congregation Ahavath Sholom presents “Tissot and the Hebrew Bible,” a virtual tour from the New York Jewish Museum.
Led by renowned lecturer Rena Tobey, this tour showcases original designs by the French painter James Tissot (1836-1902) from a collection of over 350 paintings depicting stories from the Hebrew Bible. Tissot’s watercolor illustrations cover all the books from Genesis to the Prophets and are highly cherished in the Jewish Museum’s collection. These illustrations, presented as cinematic vignettes, have had a significant influence on popular culture for many years.
After receiving great praise for his illustrations of the Christian Bible, Tissot embarked on a project to illustrate the Hebrew Bible. In 1896, he visited Palestine multiple times to seek inspiration, immersing himself in the landscapes relevant to the biblical stories to ensure historical accuracy in his illustrations. Tragically, Tissot passed away suddenly in 1902 while working on the project. His studio artists continued the series, either completing his unfinished works or creating new pieces in his style. This tour delves into the captivating story of how these illustrations found their way into the Jewish Museum’s collection.
The tour is on Sunday, November 10th at 4 p.m. on Zoom. More information can be found online.
