Studio 9 Fresh Grass Institute presents transatlantic folk duo Sons of Town Hall

North Adams– On Saturday, February 28th at 7 p.m., Studio 9 Fresh Grass Institute presents the transatlantic folk duo Sons of Town Hall. 

American songwriter-author David Berkeley and British songwriter-producer Ben Parker, as Sons of Town Hall, are creating an entirely new performance genre. Part live concept album, part performance art, they conjure their timeless mythic universe under the aliases Josiah Chester Jones and George Ulysses Brown, 19th-century vagabonds who travel the world in a hand-built boat to escape troubled pasts and search for adventure and love. 

Designed as a live companion experience to their gorgeous radio-theater podcast “Madmen Cross The Water,” they weave their wild and hilarious stories between their heartbreaking and rousing songs, taking audiences on a deeply imaginative trip every show.

The concert is on Saturday, February 28th at 7 p.m. at Studio 9 is located at 18 Veazie Street in North Adams. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets and more information can be found online.

MASS MoCA presents multi-instrumentalist and composer Cochemea Gastelum

North Adams– On Saturday, February 28th at 8 p.m., MASS MoCA presents multi-instrumentalist and composer Cochemea Gastelum. 

Music is in Cochemea Gastelum’s blood. For over 25 years, he has built a distinct career as a soloist, section player, and composer-arranger, collaborating with artists across genres, from his long tenure with Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings to work with Kevin Morby, Run The Jewels, Jon Batiste, Amy Winehouse, The Roots, and Quincy Jones, among many others.

Clark Art Institute presents a pre-recorded broadcast of The Met’s production of Richard Strauss’s ‘Arabella,’ in HD 

Williamstown– On Saturday, February 28th at 1 p.m., the Clark Art Institute presents a pre-recorded broadcast of The Met’s production of Richard Strauss’s “Arabella,” in HD.

Strauss’s elegant romance brings the glamour and enchantment of nineteenth-century Vienna to the Met stage in a sumptuous production by legendary director Otto Schenk that The New York Times said “is as beautiful as one could hope.”

Soprano Rachel Willis-Sørensen makes her role debut as the title heroine, a young noblewoman in search of love on her own terms; soprano Louise Alder makes her Met debut as her sister, Zdenka, and bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny is the dashing count who sweeps Arabella off her feet.

The broadcast is on Saturday, February 28th at 1 p.m. at the Clark Art Institute, located at 225 South Street in Williamstown. At 11 a.m., before the broadcast, there will be a pop-up exhibit of bustling, effervescent prints, drawings, and photographs featuring parties, balls, and fêtes. Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center presents London National Theatre’s production of ‘The Fifth Step,’ live in HD

Great Barrington– On Saturday, February 28th at 7 p.m., the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center presents the London National Theatre’s production of “The Fifth Step,” live in HD. 

After years in the 12-step program of Alcoholics Anonymous, James becomes a sponsor to newcomer Luka. The pair bond over black coffee, trade stories and build a fragile friendship out of their shared experiences. But as Luka approaches step five – the moment of confession – dangerous truths emerge, threatening the trust on which both of their recoveries depend.

Olivier Award-winner Jack Lowden (“Slow Horses,” “Dunkirk”) is joined by Emmy and BAFTA-winner Martin Freeman (“The Hobbit,” “The Responder”) in this critically acclaimed and subversively funny new play by David Ireland.

WANDER and Barrington Stage Company present ’10 Steps to Writing a 10-Minute Play,’ a playwright workshop with Jessica Provenz

Pittsfield– On Wednesday, March 4th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., WANDER and Barrington Stage Company (BSC) present “10 Steps to Writing a 10-Minute Play,” a playwright workshop with Jessica Provenz, a five-time 10×10 playwright and BSC commissioned playwright.

In this interactive session, Provenz will guide participants through practical, approachable steps to writing a compelling 10-minute play. Whether you’re a seasoned playwright, a theater-curious creative, or someone with a story you’ve been itching to put on the page, this workshop offers tools, inspiration, and community.

The free, public workshop is on Wednesday, March 4th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Wander, located at 34 Depot Street in Pittsfield. Registration and more information can be found online.

Berkshire International Film Festival and The Triplex Cinema present a free screening of ‘Cutting Through Rocks’

Great Barrington– On Sunday, March 1st at 3 p.m., Berkshire International Film Festival (BIFF) and The Triplex Cinema present a free screening of “Cutting Through Rocks,” the first Iranian documentary ever nominated for an Academy Award.

In “Cutting Through Rocks,” which screened at BIFF last May, 37-year-old Sara Shahverdi, a motorcycle riding, land owning, former midwife-turned-fierce citizen advocate and recent divorcée, just won a landslide local election in her remote Iranian village and everyone has an opinion about it.

The free screening is on Sunday, March 1st at 3 p.m. at The Triplex Cinema, located at 70 Railroad Street in Great Barrington. Tickets and more information can be found online.

Music in Common’s fourth annual Black History Month Tour culminates in celebration of the release of founder and director Todd Mack’s new album

Great Barrington– On Saturday, February 28th at 5 p.m., Music in Common’s fourth annual Black History Month Tour culminates in celebration of the release of founder and director Todd Mack’s new album. 

The tour, which began three weeks ago in Arizona, will culminate with this special event featuring EMCEE P.O.E.T.R.E.Y, Bree Soul, and Music in Common. Todd Mack takes the stage at 6 p.m. to celebrate the release of his new album, “I’m Gonna Love You No Matter What.”
