American Mural Project Happy Hour Piano Series presents a jazz concert by Warren Byrd

Winsted, Conn.— On Friday, November 29th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., as part of its Happy Hour Piano Series, American Mural Project presents a jazz concert by Warren Byrd.

Pianist, composer, vocalist, and percussionist Warren Byrd has an international touring career, performing with his own groups and with such greats as Archie Shepp, Eddie Henderson, Frank Lacy, Saskia Laroo, Jay Hoggard, Jimmy Green, and Hans Dulfer. A top-25 pick in the Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition, his recordings include the jazz album “Truth Raised Twice,” “Jazz in the Wilde,” and numerous albums with Saskia Laroo.

The concert is on Friday, November 29th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at American Mural Project, located at 90 Whiting Street in Winsted, Conn. Unwind after work, mingle with friends and coworkers, have a drink at the cash/credit bar, and peruse the artwork. More information can be found online.

Wander presents vocalist Clara Guatta Cescuni

Pittsfield— On Thursday, December 5th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wander presents a special evening of live music with the talented Clara Guatta Cescuni. 

This intimate performance will showcase Clara’s versatile vocal talents as she brings the vibrant sounds of Latin music to life, with a special focus on her Argentinian heritage. Her performances reflect her rich cultural influences and her deep passion for musical storytelling. Clara’s artistry is shaped not only by her exceptional vocal range but also by her ability to channel heartfelt emotion, creating performances that resonate deeply with audiences. Clara invites listeners on a journey of self-discovery and connection, blending her personal experiences with a love for the rhythms and melodies of Argentina.

Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center presents its traditional screening of ‘The Wizard of Oz’

Great Barrington— On Saturday, November 30th at 4 p.m., the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center presents its annual screening of “The Wizard of Oz” (1939 / Rated G / 1h 42m.)

Join Dorothy, Toto, the Tin Man, Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion in this all-time musical favorite about friendship, courage, adventure, and home. The Mahaiwe’s screening is a community tradition on the Saturday following Thanksgiving every year.

Clark Art Institute presents ‘Photography, Antiblackness, and the Politics of the Visual,’ a lecture by Kimberly Juanita Brown

Williamstown— On Tuesday, December 3rd at 5:30 p.m., the Clark Art Institute’s Research and Academic Program presents “Photography, Antiblackness, and the Politics of the Visual,” a lecture by Kimberly Juanita Brown, Director of the Institute for Black Intellectual and Cultural Life and Associate Professor of English and Creative Writing at Dartmouth College.

Brown examines photography’s long history as tethered to global histories of antiblackness that have ritualized ways of seeing for the viewing public. She unpacks what she calls a “cartography of the ocular” as one of the important ways to measure legibility in images of violated black subjects.

The free lecture is on Tuesday, December 3rd at 5:30 p.m. at the Clark Art Institute, located at 225 South Street in Williamstown. There is a pre-show reception at 5 p.m. More information can be found online.

Church of St. John in the Wilderness presents Artist Studio Tour 2024, featuring 16 of Columbia County’s finest artists

Copake Falls, N.Y.— On Saturday, November 30th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Church of St. John in the Wilderness presents Artist Studio Tour 2024, featuring Columbia County’s finest artists.

Sixteen artists, who live and work in Columbia County, will open their studio doors and allow visitors who have purchased a $25 ticket to view their work. Most of the work displayed will be for sale, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit St. John in the Wilderness.

“This is a fun and unique opportunity to drive from one studio to the next, at your own pace and leisure, seeing what happens behind the curtain,” said Marjorie Hoog, curator of the event. “These fantastic artists are volunteering their time to share their work with the public.”

Q-MoB to host 2nd Annual Queer Men’s Gratitude Potluck

Lee— On Saturday, November 30 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Q-MoB is hosting the 2nd Annual Queer Men’s Gratitude Potluck at the First Congregational Church in Lee. 

“For many LGBTQ+ people, the holidays can sometimes be a challenging time because they may be estranged geographically or otherwise from their birth families while also not having as diverse a chosen family as they might want after the isolation of the COVID era and the divisiveness of this increasingly polarized time,” said Bart Church, Q-MoB’s Executive Director and one of the organizers of the Community Potluck.

Many in our community are experiencing anxiety and uncertainty about the future after the recent election, so these potlucks are important opportunities for us to come together to remind ourselves of the power of community.

The potluck is on Saturday, November 30 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, located at 25 Park Place in Lee. More information can be found online.
