Hudson Hall presents ‘Bobby Previte: No Bells, No Whistles,’ a world premiere concert for solo drum set
Hudson, N.Y.— On Saturday, July 27th at 7 p.m., Hudson Hall presents “Bobby Previte: No Bells, No Whistles,” a world premiere concert for solo drum set.
Bobby Previte performs solo pieces for the modern drum set that will change your perception of the instrument’s identity. Seated in the round, up close to the instrument, the parallel worlds of player and listener dovetail into one.

Previte said “The drum set is a circle with the drummer as its fluid center, rooted within the architecture but sending out flares of sound beyond the physical boundary. It is of course a glorious machine for rhythm, but by asking the listener to answer the questions posed by its unknowable timbres and pitches, it can also reach the furthest depths of melody, harmony, texture, and narrative.”
The concert is on Saturday, July 27th at 7 p.m. at Hudson Hall at the historic Hudson Opera House at 327 Warren Street in Hudson, N.Y. More information can be found online.

Berkshire County Historical Society presents ‘Poor Herman,’ a play by Herman Melville’s great-great-great granddaughter
Pittsfield— from July 26th through August 3rd, Berkshire County Historical Society presents “Poor Herman,” a play by Elizabeth Doss, Herman Melville’s great-great-great granddaughter.
“Poor Herman” unearths the life of Herman Melville, who arguably wrote America’s best and worst novels back-to-back in 1850 and 1851. The production considers what compelled Melville, struggling to salvage his declining reputation while trying to feed a growing family, to write a virtually unreadable book, Pierre or the Ambiguities, in the aftermath of Moby Dick’s initial failure with critics and readers. While hindsight now celebrates his achievements, this production investigates what it cost him to make history and speculates on the line between the utter genius and epic failure in us all.

All characters in the play, including Herman Melville and Nathaniel Hawthorne are played by five women including Diana Lynn Small, Katie Bender, Alexis Scott, Marie Ponce, and Zoë Laiz.
The performances run from July 26th through August 3rd at Arrowhead on Homes Road in Pittsfield. The performances are at 7 p.m. More information can be found online.
