AGE Triad holds ‘Be Seen, Be Safe’ picnic
Great Barrington — The AGE Triad – promoting safety for older adults and representing the towns of Alford, Great Barrington and Egremont – held a “Be Seen Be Safe” picnic at the Claire Teague Senior Center on June 21. A large crowd enjoyed a free picnic lunch donated by Berkshires’ Bounty, the Egremont Council on Aging and Fairview Hospital and heard from several speakers on pedestrian, driving and bicycling safety.
Great Barrington Police Department Chief William Walsh led off the event reviewing how the program has developed over the past 18 months in response to tragic traffic events. Rich Berry, a nurse from Fairview’s education department, provided walking safety tips attendees followed by Michele Ellicks from the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles’ community outreach department, who discussed importance of being able to hear, see and make quick decisions when driving safely. Jay Elling from Berkshire Bike and Board finished off the presentation by discussing biking safety and demonstrating different models of bicycles.
Each attendee received a free high-visibility vest purchased with donations from the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office, Egremont and Mount Washington councils on aging, Fairview Hospital, and the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Squad.

‘Cads, Trollops and Traitors’ at Ventfort Hall

Lenox — Historian Robert Asplund will return to Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum on Tuesday, July 25, at 4 p.m. to give a talk titled “Cads, Trollops and Traitors: The Berkshires’ Indiscreet Elite” followed by a Victorian tea.
Many of the most prominent Berkshire cottagers and visitors may have had sterling public reputations, but not all were immune to moral missteps and other indiscretions. Depending on the perspectives of the audience, these “cads, trollops and traitors” might be considered, in Asplund’s words, “heroes, libertines and loyal statesmen!”
Asplund participated for many years in environmental policy for a Richmond, Virginia-based corporation. He is currently clerk of the Commonwealth of Virginia House of Delegates’ Science and Technology Committee.
Tickets are $26 for advance reservations and $32 on the day of the lecture. For reservations or more information, contact Ventfort Hall at (413) 637-3206 or info@gildedage.org.
