Stockbridge Sinfonia to present two concerts
Stockbridge – The Stockbridge Sinfonia will present two concerts in celebration of the 20th anniversary of its scholarship program. The concerts will take place on Saturday, Aug. 20, at 2 p.m. at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge and on Sunday, Aug. 21, at 7 p.m., at Lenox Memorial High School’s Duffin Theatre. The program will feature works by Von Suppe, Bach, Khachaturian, Saint-Saens, Mozart, Sibelius and Strauss. The concerts are free and open to the public, and a free will donation will be collected to benefit the student scholarship fund.
The Stockbridge Sinfonia, a community orchestra in existence for over 40 years, is conducted by Simeon Loring and comprised of volunteer musicians of all ages, from high school students to retired local residents. The high school students all receive scholarships at the end of the summer season, in return for their participation as players and volunteers. The concerts will include high school student soloists Chenyang Lin and Adam Shepardson. The Bach portion of the program will be conducted by Cecilia Sparacio. Berry foraging hike at Tamarack Hollow
Windsor – Tamarack Hollow Nature and Cultural Center will present a highland “ghost town” berry foraging trek at Tamarack Hollow Nature and Cultural Center and the Smithers Woodland Preserve at Notchview on Saturday, Aug. 20, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to see cellar holes, stone wells, and “witness trees;” to learn about wild edible plants and trees; and to join in high-bush blueberry foraging. New Lebanon, New York — Behold! New Lebanon, the living museum of contemporary rural American life, has announced its schedule for Saturday, Aug. 20. The programs will include:
Hands to Work, Hearts to God: to the Meetinghouse – Coordinator and educator Wyatt Erchak, invites visitors to meet the Shakers and visit the place they established as their 18th century headquarters.
A Room with a View – Claudette Lefebvre, owner of the Retreat at Pease Farm, will guide participants through the main house, discussing the historic building and how she transformed it into a business.
Making Jazz – Learn how a familiar tune can be transformed into jazz with Juilliard graduate Monte Wasch at his home music studio.
Rescuing and Restoring an Historic House – What does the skeleton of an old building have to tell us about its own history? How does one start to rehabilitate an old home?
The World of Berries – Tour the fields and greenhouses of the Berry Patch with owners Dale-Ila Riggs and Don Miles.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for youth ages 5 – 16, and free for children ages 4 and under when accompanied by an adult. Advance ticket purchase is recommended for all programs. Actor portraits installed at Shakespeare & Company

Lenox — Charcoal portraits of three Shakespeare & Company actors were formally installed in the Company’s Elayne P. Bernstein Theater on Thursday, Aug. 11. Drawn during the Company’s 2012 run of “King Lear,” the portraits depict Dennis Krausnick as King Lear, Kevin Coleman as the Fool, and Jonathan Epstein as Kent. All three actors attended the ceremony, along with the artist, former South Egremont resident Sharon Wybrants of Brooklyn; and Krausnick’s aunt, Joan McVeigh, who donated the portraits to the Company. Among those representing the Company were General Manager Stephen D. Ball and Artistic Director Ariel Bock.
